Pacifiers?
Was wondering if the babies in China - for those of you who have been there or know - do they use pacifiers?
Was just wondering about that...I hate to intitiate if not needed... Thanks. Megi |

Megi,
Good question. We brought several pacifiers of varying size and shapes to China with us. We introduced it to our daughter while in China, but she did NOT like any of it at all....and stuck with sucking her thumb. Btw, I didn't notice any of the babies there ever using a pacifier. Peter |

No I don't think they use pacifiers in China but I will admit that we had given one to Olivia while in China. For the first few days it was more a toy then she got the hang of it. I know alot of people don't like them but I have a different look on it. I think it has more to do with a child being adopted. Their whole world changes when they come to us. They have lost all sense of security, at least for awhile. I found that the pacifier became comfort for Olivia. And yes she just turned 2 and she still uses it but its only for a nap or when she goes to bed at night. And once in a very blue moon she will use it if she is really upset over something. So again its a comfort thing. I am not stressing over it yet though.

Of the children we know who have been adopted from China, some were interested in pacifiers and some were not.

The information we received when we were handed our daughter stated that she used a pacifier. We did not bring any with us but someone in our group was kind enough to give us one of theirs.
That said, Sophia had no interest in a pacifier, nor has she ever sucked her thumb or fingers. She does chew on her blanket a little bit but it seems more in play than for comfort.
