Considering China adoption, and I have questions
Hi,
My husband and I are considering adopting a child from China. I'm wondering if anyone would mind taking a minute to respond to the following questions: 1) If you have an agency you really liked, can you PM the info to me? 2) How long is it taking from the time you initiate until you have your baby? I heard it's a long time now. 3) What is the age range of the babies? I heard that lately there are many toddlers and fewer infants. 4) What is the total cost for the adoption? 5) Generally, what is the health like of the children adopted from China? Thanks so much! 1) If you have an agency you really liked, can you PM the info to me?Yup. :-)
2) How long is it taking from the time you initiate until you have your baby? I heard it's a long time now. I took longer than the average typical of my day for paperchase due to my work. I took 18 months from decision to Gotme. Wait time was 7 months at the time. Now it's 10-12. 3) What is the age range of the babies? I heard that lately there are many toddlers and fewer infants. There is no way to know what age you will receive. Most of the people I know who are in China right now are getting children around 9-16 months. Most around 12. 4) What is the total cost for the adoption? Iam in debt for around $22,000. :-) 5) Generally, what is the health like of the children adopted from China? Lydia had Giardia and Shigelliosis. Both were cured within 3 weeks of coming home. Most (though not all) of the non special needs children I know of came home with no more than a cold. |

I will PM you! 2) How long is it taking from the time you initiate until you have your baby? I heard it's a long time now. I'm still "in process" right now, but the current timeline is about 9 months from LID to referral. The paperchase time varies. Mine took 7 months, which seems longer than most. 3) What is the age range of the babies? I heard that lately there are many toddlers and fewer infants. I have heard just under a year to 18 months. 4) What is the total cost for the adoption? We just finished with the paper chase and have spent $9800 so far. We are expecting to spend about another $8,000 to $10,000 before it is all done. 5) Generally, what is the health like of the children adopted from China? I have heard most children are healthy. |

Hi,
1. Agency: I will try to PM you who we used as our agency. 2: Time frame: Our dossier took longer to gather as we took our time with some things but from log in to referral was 6 months and from referral to travel was another two months (two very long months!) 3. Age range: Our baby was almost 10 months at referral and almost 1 yr at our "gotcha" day. In fact we celebrated her first birthday in a hotel in Nanchang. Of the other babies in our group 4 were 11 months and 1 was 14 months. 4. Our cost was right around 20,000.00 including travel and our touring before meeting our group in Nanchang. 5. All the babies in our group had colds and after getting home our baby and I think 1 other had giardia which was easily taken care of with medication. All of the babies in our group were very small and develpmentally behind however at this point all have caught up and are doing great! If you have other questions I would be happy to help. 2) How long is it taking from the time you initiate until you have your baby? I heard it's a long time now. They are saying after being dtc it will take around 11-12 months for referral I believe. We were dtc 1-28 and received referral in 7 months traveled 6 wks later. 3) What is the age range of the babies? I heard that lately there are many toddlers and fewer infants. Actually I have heard the opposite. At my agency there are sveral older couples that have asked for older todlers and the CCAA asked tehm if they were willing to change to younger. 4) What is the total cost for the adoption? My total was right around $15,500. 5) Generally, what is the health like of the children adopted from China? Out of our group of 12 none of the babies have had any serious issues. Caitlyn is in perfect health. Alot of times they meed some good nutrition and tlc to get strong once coming home. Cailtyn seemed a bit delayed in motorskills but caught u and lightning speed and at 13 months is running dancing climbing and speaking several words |
