cancer survivor question
Hi,
I'm posting this on behalf of a friend going through a difficult time medically. She has been going through the adoption process for China and was due to receive a referral in the next few weeks. She was also diagnosed with breast cancer and just finished treatment. Her agency has now told her she has to put her adoption on hold until she has been cancer free for 3 years. This adoption was the thing that got her through the difficult treatment process so now she is devastated. I just wondered if this was a country rule or agency or if she had any options left. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Vicky |

I bumped this up today because I remember reading about a member who had gone into remission with cancer and adopted little Gwen. I followed her blog until she moved it. The blog name was "Gwenblog". Her blog was amazing and I was hooked on it almost daily. Just wondering if any of you know her forum name. Just thinking she might be able to answer this question.

I also think reading this post should help some people who are so anxious about the wait being extended a few months put things in perspective.

Vicky;
She may want to call some other agencies but China does look to see that potential parents have been cancer free for a certain period of time and that they have doctor's notes stating the prognosis etc. And I'd suspect the 'length of time' to be cancer free may be different for different types of cancer (that's not fact; just me wondering!!). China and the adoption agencies want the children placed with parents who are in good health and have good life expectancies so that the children won't be abandoned/ orphaned any time soon. Yes, certainly 'stuff happens' and anyone of us can die at any time but.... Joanne |

Thank you all for replying. I will look and see if I can find the blog.
I understand the agencies and China wanting children to be with healthy parents, I'm just trying to give a friend some hope that she will have the child of her dreams. Thank you for all the information. Vicky |

I can't imagine how heartbreaking it would be to be almost to referral then receive this news.
Is she a single woman adopting? If not, I don't understand why China would say no since they allow singles to adopt. Worst case the child would still have a father.
