hotel rooms in China

For those of you who have traveled to China with your children, how large are the rooms? If we take our 3 children, will we all be able to squeeze in one room or do they have suites as in the US?

We actually planned on having 2 rooms once we received our daughter as our then 2 yr old was also traveling with us. None of the hotels we used had connecting rooms so we had suites instead.

We had a suite at the White Swan, though it only had 1 larg bed plus a couch in the second room.

Our suite in Nanchang was HUGE but again, with only one very large bed.

The single rooms in Nanchang were very small. The White Swan singles were roomier.

All our rooms were quite small....2 twin-size beds.

I'd recommend getting a second room for a soon-to-be a family of six.

When we travel it will be DH, myself, our ds who will be 8, and of course the baby. How much more is a suite instead of a regular room. I hadn't even thought of this before. Thanks for bringing it up.

I honestly don't remember! It was a last minute change/decision right before we left. Our agency rep contacted the agency, agency called us, we agreed to the change over the phone for the Nanchang hotel but still expected 2 rooms at the White Swan.

Once we were in Nanchang, we were then asked about changing to a suite for the White Swan as well because they didn't have connecting rooms and they couldn't even guarantee two rooms on the same floor.

I don't recall the difference being all that much though. If we were to do it again, I would stick with the two rooms. Our daughters kept waking each other up and we ended up with our 2 year old in our bed both in Nanchang and at the White Swan. With two separate rooms, I think we all would have been more rested!

I've been told to ask for interconnecting rooms, otherwise they'll just give you two next to each other. I found out the victory does have interconnecting rooms, not sure about the white swan. I plan to stay at the victory so I didn't check the other places.

Most hotel rooms tend to be fairly small once you have 2 adults, 1 crib and all the assorted luggage in there for even a family of 3.

Some reasons to look at adjoining rooms: If the baby isn't sleeping well at least someone will get a decent night's sleep. Depending on the setup of a suite this may also be true; I'm not sure how doors and noise factors work out in some suites.
Even worse scenerio is 2 rooms next to each other.. the parents can split up so one is with the baby and one is with the other children.

Many Chinese hotels charge at least $20-30 per day for a rollaway bed. If you're looking to get 2 of those the whole room would be taken up with little room for walking and the costs wouldnt' be much less than a suite or an extra room.

I know our agency director recommends families bring sleeping bags for the kid travelers and make the whole sleeping on the floor part of the adventure of the trip. He recommends this over getting rollaway beds (due to the costs and space factor).

I was just thinking about the cost of 2 rooms vs. suite vs. adjoining etc. as a consideration if we take the whole family. How much are rooms in china anyway. I feel like such an inexperienced traveler! The ability to rest is certainly a top priority.

Hi Speechgirl, I'm a Chinese living in China. Which cities will you be staying, and roughly about when you'll be coming (price may varies in different seasons)? Maybe I can help you check out prices for different choices there might be available. :-)

In case I did not check your feedback in time, you can contact me via email: tammyhuang@china.com

There was just my husband and myself going to China and the rooms were typical hotel rooms that you might find at the beach. Ours had 2 twin (very hard) beds and a crib for the baby. We did have a couple of families who brought other children but I do not know what their rooms looked like. Is this something your agency could help you with or are you having to make your own hotel reservations? Our agency covered everything for us. We just told her how many were coming. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
