Just starting - a few questions

Hi. My husband and I are considering adopting from China in a few years (I won't be 30 for another year and four months). After reading some of the posts, I have a few questions.

1. Medical - My husband Mike has a pretty bad back - 3 bulging discs. He has had some physical therapy, etc, but no surgery. Is this a medical condition that could prevent us from adopting?

2. I have a 13 year old stepson who lives in another state and lives with us only during summer vacation and holidays. Would the Chinese government view this in a negative light? Perhaps viewed as him not being a responsible parent to his son? Mike is a great dad. My stepson's mother just chose to move out of state a few years ago.

Anyone who has any insight into either situation, it would be appreciated. I have had a heart to adopt from China for a few years now. I recently lost my son who was born too premature due to my waters breaking early. We are currently trying to get pregnant again and would like to adopt regardless of the outcome of our next pregnancy. I just really hope that either of the above situations are not ones in which we would be disqualified.

Thanks,
Cressa

Cressa,

I think a quick call to any agency could get answers to your questions.

Also, I am sorry for your previous loss. Having suffered miscarriages myself, I know the pain you must have felt.

Best of luck as you move forward.

Is this a medical condition that could prevent us from adopting?Usually medical conditions are not a problem as long as a doctor signs off on the fact that they will not effect your ability to parent.

I know of other people who have adopted in similar situations...so I doubt this would be a problem.

I am sorry about your miscarriage. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!

Thanks for the info. I didn't think that those things would be a huge issue, but I also don't know how picky the Chinese government is. Has anyone had health issues that were approved by your agency then denied by CCAA?

Lately I worry about everything. I actually didn't suffer a miscarriage, but my son, Elijah, was born premature when I was just over 6 months pregnant. He was just too little and his lungs too immature to survive. My husband wants to try and get pregnant again. If I was 30, however, I think we would move ahead with adoption and forget about getting pregnant. I think I will be too much of a mess during the pregnancy.

Thanks again. If anyone else has any experience with health issues/children living out of the home and how that affected your adoption from China, I would love to hear about it.
