Frustrated have had to canel USCIS appt again!
We are so close and yet I am feeling like so far from being done. I have now made and canceled 3 appoinments to get fingerprinted. The first two were because our homestudy was delayed and then got delievered to us a couple days late. Then we set one up for this morning and I thought perfect, we can not have to think about it until the holidays are over. Last night at midnight our four year old came into our room because he was wet and cold and wasn't sure why. One look and we rushed him to the bathroom to clean up the throw up covering him. The poor thing then went on the throw up 10 more times over the next 7 hours. I feel bad for him but I also feel frustrated. I am hoping by midafternoon we can get him to keep liquids down and then figure out how to get to the appt with family coming and going over the holidays. I feel like a bad Mom for even worrying about the appoitment but I also feel like our daughter needs us to keep working on finding her.
Thanks for letting me vent. Diana |

Diana,
Everything happens for a reason. Take care of your child. Don't feel guilty. Its only natural to feel frustrated. The wait is difficult no matter the reason. Everything will work out, you will get fingerprinted, you will complete the paperchase, and you will get to China to pick up your child.

I understand your frustration. You're right to let it all out. But you will see that everything will work out. I have complete confidence in your ability to take care of your family and paper-chase, both in their appropriate, respective times.

Those "throw up" viruses are highly contagious, so be really, really careful about washing your hands frequently and putting drinking glasses and such in the hottest dishwasher cycle.
When an adult gets one of these viruses, he/she often is even sicker than a child would be -- and of course, how do you prepare meals and do other household chores, when you are as weak as a kitten and unable to stray five feet from the bathroom? Speaking from experience, Sharon

We tried a new approach that might have helped. The nurse told us to have him fast (no water, nothing) for three hours and then for the next two give him one teaspoon of heavy syrup from something like peaches every ten minutes. Well he has only thrown up twice this afternoon/evening compared to almost ten times overnight and this morning. After the two hours we have moved to 1 tablespoon of clear liquids every 15 minutes or so. Either way he will sleep in our room again and we are all hoping for a better day tomorrow.
Thanks for the remind of washing hands, I have been washing really well and using clorex wipes all over the bathroom. Our other son had this last Fri/Sat so I assumed we were in the clear when none else had it by Monday. The Nurse said that the bug going around here has a 5-7 day period were it can still hit you. I am starting the clock again and hoping the rest of us aren't having a really bad Christmas day. Diana |

For nausea and vomiting, especially if a child is refusing Pedialyte or water, our pediatrician recommends either Coca-Cola syrup (available at occasional pharmacies) or flat regular Coca-Cola, which is much easier to obtain. You can "flatten" Coke by stirring out the bubbles or just leaving it out, open, for a while.
He says that Coke syrup has mild anti-nausea properties, and I believe him, as this was prescribed for me when I suffered from car sickness as a child. It worked great. And he says that most kids like the taste of Coke and will drink enough to avoid dehydration. I used this with my daughter when she was TWO, on the pediatrician's advice -- and this is a young Board-certified guy with impeccable credentials. She had been vomiting frequently, and I worried about dehydration as she wouldn't drink water or Pedialyte. A little of the Coke came back up -- and vomited Coke is extremely nasty-looking. However, the vomiting soon stopped, and Becca fell asleep. She awoke the next morning feeling great. Unfortunately, the following night, I came down with the same problem, and I got it much worse than my daughter did. I was so weak that I could barely get to the kitchen to feed my daughter, and I wound up lying on the sofa in the living room and putting her high chair next to it while she ate. Besides the fact that I got sick, the main downside of Becca's illness was the fact that she developed a taste for Coke, which I never give her! I let her have Sprite or ginger ale or a "Shirley Temple" on special occasions, especially now that she is 10, but I tend to avoid giving caffeinated beverages to kids. Of course, she has had Coke at parties and such. So if the heavy syrup doesn't work, by all means try flat Coke. It can't hurt, and will at least keep your son hydrated. But don't be surprised if he pesters you for a six-pack of Coke, the next time you are at the supermarket! Sharon Sharon

Your frustration is understandable. I am sorry you are dealing with a sick one at home. I hope you are able to escape the wrath of this virus. You will get your fingerprints soon
