So, was there a CCAA meeting or not?

I heard some rumors floating around that there was supposed to be a CCAA meeting on Friday concerning some adoption issues.

I know that their website says that adoptions are going a bit slower due to increases in dossiers, but,
was there really some sort of a meeting on Friday, and what was the outcome?

Did they talk about weight standards, or was that just a rumor? Has anybody heard anything since the supposed Friday meeting?

It is just a rumor -- there will be NO "official" policy as far as what weight people can be. They are merely looking at the health of overwieght applicants a little closer.

I was wondering the same thing. I have really liked my agency up until now. I keep asking questions but am not getting any definite answers Is anyone else having this problem with their agency? Or has everyone besides me had all their questions answered?
Any info on this meeting would be wonderful.

Yes - this came from our agency - they have a rep that attends the meetings at the CCAA. He has told them this information.

Our agency discourages posting what they stated, so I will not do that, I will only give you my understanding of what I have been told.

China is not setting policy in regards to weight, they are simply indicating that they are concerned about potential health problems, especially when it comes to people who are heavier. A simple statement in your HS and from your doctor indicating that you lead an active lifestyle and that your ability to raise children is not affected is more then plenty.

From what i have seen, some agencies set thier own rules to prevent what they see as potential problems. So my advice is that if your agency is giving you a hard time about the weight then find a new agency. I would be happy to refer you to mine, since they are fantastic, if you would like to PM me.

Thanks
Stephen

stephdpenn - I believe that we are using the same agency-
I posted this question point blank on the yahoo group for special needs that our agency has. An agency representative responded with basically - we are aware that the rumor is going around - we have not been told anything - if/when we hear anything, we'll let our clients know.
I don't think they're trying to hide anything from us, I think they don't want to get us worked up over a rumor, and don't want to disappoint us without absolute confirmation from CCAA.

OK, so this seems like there was indeed a meeting. And it further seems that the weight issue was discussed, but more along the lines of an overall emphasis on having the adoptive parents being able to lead an active and healthy enough lifestyle, even if they are overweight, to raise a child. Fair enough. So we can essentially put the weight rumor to bed, and know that there are no global "overweight" requirements for everyone.

So, what else was discussed at this meeting?

Is there any word on the W-A-I-T issue?
Is there any word on what will happen with moving to a new building, or Chinese New Year - how those might impact referrals in January?

I guess I may be looking for answers that aren't there, but if anyone doesn't want to tell exactly what their agency says on this forum, I'd love it if you could consider sending me a PM, maybe.

I don't know what's fact here and what's not. I will tell you that my doctor stated that I was healthy and that she highly recommended me as a parent and yet I was still told by my agency that I was too heavy to adopt right now. China is starting to look at people's health and weight. However, they are saying that you need to be able to roll around with your children. I can roll around, however, my agency is concerned that my dossier would be rejected due to them looking at weight now. Mind you, you have to be very heavy to have this be a problem.

Niccum,
Hi, how are you doing? We are starting a support group here for trying to loose weight. I just weighed myself tonight and had GAINED 4 pounds since my Doctor exam. So at this time I am not heading in the right direction. I hope with others support maybe I can get it back down and loose a lot more.

Stephanie,

For a weight support group, should we just do a discussion thread through this forum or maybe start a "group" blog that we post to? Has anyone had any ideas for the best way for us to help each other out?
