Independent adoption from China
We are wondering if any one from this message board had completed an independent adoption from China? Is it more troubles than it worth, or should we just go directly to an adoption agency? Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can do an independent adoption from China. From what I understand, you have to go through an accredited agency, which CCAA (China Center for Adoption Affairs) approves. CCAA handles all international adoptions through China.
When we first decided to adopt from China, a close friend of the family had traveled to China, and she had gone to a doctor there. Originally, she said she was going to get the doctor's email address for us to hook up with him about adopting. We assumed with all the children there needing homes, it would be an option to not use an agency. We quickly found out that it is very organized and you cannot do it that way. It is, however, very streamline. Recently, there's been talk about the time becomming longer after submitting all the paperwork, as it seems it will now possibly be taking 10-12 months as opposed to 6-7 months. Regardless, it's still a very streamline system when compaired to other international and domestic adoption predictability and procedures.

tandb,
I called CCAA. I am told that we can't select the orphan. they assign for us. They do this to prevent child-buying. This means we have to decide to accept the assignemnt or not before we have the chance to see the child. I am from China and have chance to see the orphans in my hometown. But CCAA will not assign us the pre-identified infant. Without CCAA's permission, you can't do the international adoption from China. I know you mean if you hoop up a doctor in China, you may be able to idenfy a new-born faster. But you can't get the pre-identfied infant even you do the adoption via angcy. I considered adopting as chinese so that I can see the child before adoption and can have a daughter earlier. It seems I have to give up the idea due to the immigration risk and the anxiety I will have before we bring my baby here. As long as we can view the assignement of CCAA as the task from God and all kids are lovable, we will have peace mind. I will use the next 2 year kid-free life to improve my health and to learn the somthing for child-caring so that I will be a better mother. Good luck in your adoption, As chinese myself, I respect and thank all the good heart americans who will be or are the adoptive parents of chinese orphans. I realy hope chinese people will be educated as us so that girls will be viewed as same important as boys. Jane |

Cindy, Thank you!
I really learned and gained a lot from this forum. Sometimes I want to cry when reading topics like how to protect the children regarding why they are abondoned. Little by little, my heart changed to give-up the selfish ideas like: how to get a best girl and what is the most convient way to take care of her etc. My mind changed to focus how to prepare to be a good mother. I am a helper for infant progarm in the church so that I will learn more about parenting. I also think about to be a full-time mother after we bring my daughter home. Ladies, I would like to introducce the chinese culture or do the translation for you free as long as I can manage my time. feel free to PM me if you need such kind of help. Good bless us all a happy and peace life. Jane |
