171 and Houston

Has anyone had their 171 processed through the Houston office? If so, what was your wait like?
The reason I ask is that a couple that went through the Dallas office was fingerprinted the same day we were (Nov. 1) and received their 171 this morning.

I don't know how I'm going to make the wait for a referral when this wait is driving me nuts. But, knowing how things have been going with us so far, it will be a wait and a half.

I heard its taking longer because they're still backlogged from hurricane rita. I don't know exactly how long it takes though because I'm not finished with my paperwork yet (come on CPA! how long does it take to write a letter?!).

Did you send in your 1-600a before your homestudy? I'm just curious cause I'm still unclear on whether I can send mine in before the homestudy is complete or not.

Yes, we sent in the I-600 while we were waiting for the homestudy to be written. USCIS sent us a receipt and a letter stating that it was incomplete because there was no homestudy, but to send that in when it is available. We sent it in and received our fingerprint letter in two weeks.
