Smile "squeaky" shoes

To all you experienced mothers out there....What is this "squeaky" shoe thing? I keep seeing references to people shopping for "squeaky" shoes while in China. What gives people?

I think (but I'm not sure) that the literally squeak. That way you can tell where your little one is headed and interfere if need be (ex: towards the stairs). But I could be totally off.

Ahhhh ... like the Indian belled ankle bracelets! Which at least sound pretty ... and look cute on babies!

We dont' have anything like that in southern IL...just wondering if they were unique to China. I've already decided we have to get some and I don't even know what they are! Ha.

They also help the baby learn to walk because they like to make the shoes squeak. I've heard about them in China but not here. Apparently, they are very affordable there too.

Smile shoes

I sent you a link to a site that sells them. I never looked before but there are several websites that sell them in the US. I guess we'll wait to get them in China though.

There is a great blog from a regular poster named Lissa, a brand new mom who is in China right now picking up her baby, that mentions these shoes!

I can't remember her blog address, but it's on her signature if you do a search for her (or she may post a response to this message!).

I was just reading her latest updates earlier today and she writes about buying these shoes for her daughter. As the other posters have mentioned, they apparently encourage the child to walk with their squeaky sound.

They sound much like a dog toy that squeaks with each step. In fact my daughter caught the attention of quite a few dogs in the neighborhood when we got home. The squeaks are mostly removable if the noise drives you or your child crazy. We got some just because they were cute but I didn't want the noise in all her shoes so we just pulled out the squeaker. I was told they aren't sold here much because the squeak makes them a danger for kids under 3 and choking. They are sold all over so you won't miss them if you look while in China.

My 15 month old son has a pair of squeaky shoes and I have not been to China yet. I got his at Kid to Kid Resale store. They were new. I did see a pair of pink ones I want to get when our little girl comes home but you can find them here too.

Please remember that ALL URL's that lead to fee based websites must be sent thru PM.

I realize that the above URL was directing members to a video, but the main URL is a fee based retail website.

I was doing dishes before and wondered why I was singing, "Sticky shoes, sticky shoes, always make me smile..." in my mind! Any other "Friends" fans out there who are reminded of Phoebe Buffay's song by this conversation about squeaky shoes?!

Glad you guys found Lissa's website about the shoes. Her little Lydia is darling, isn't she?
