Sent in the application today

My wife and I sent in our application today... We have not spoken with anyone at the agency that we chose, since we chose them based off reccomendations and online research.

They had the application online, which we printed out and sent in with our check.

I am wondering, should we call them, or just let them contact us?

Should we be doing anything else right now to get the process moving faster?

We are currently researching HS providers (thanks to everyone who has sent us recommendations). Is there anything else we can do right now?

SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!!

Congratulations, Stephen on the beginning of your adoptionjourney!

When my husband and I sent in our application, we called the agency to let them know that it was on its way just to make sure that they receive it and that it does not get lost in the shuffle or in the mail. We also asked them to confirm receipt. In addition, everything we sent to the agency was sent by Fed-Ex or USPS priority mail with tracking. It is safer that way.

I don't know what you have done so far, but you can start ordering certified copies of your birth and marriage certificates. You will need them and it can take a few weeks to receive them.

Good luck!
Sue

I sent it certified mail. That way we got a receipt back when it was delivered.

We heard from our agency about a week later. They had to check our references and everything.

Agency

I contacted my agency to let them know the application was on it's way, and to find out what to expect from there. They were very nice and have kept in contact since then.

(1) If you don't have passports, you can apply for them now. You will both need them, even if only one of you is traveling.
(2) Start gathering pictures for your dossier and HS. No pictures of animals, relatives or friends that do not live in the house. You need a picture of your house and one of you, your spouse and any children you have. They like to see pictures of you inside your house or on vaction, or doing a hobby.
(3) Request birth and marriage certificates. I requested 4 birth certificates(B) and 2 marriage certs(M). 1 B&M for HS, 1 B&M for dossier, 1 B for passport, and 1 B I am taking with me to China. If you have old birth certs, they will work for everything except your dossier. Birth and marriage certs need to be new.
Your HS and adoption agency will give you a list of everything else you need.
Have fun and congrats!
