I see a lot of us have picked out a name for our daughters long before a referral so I thought I'd ask you all what names you plan to use. For our daughter's middle name, I'm not sure if we'll use her given name or whether we'll pick a Chinese name ourselves. Right now we like En-Mei after the author Amy Tan, which is supposed to mean "American blessing". Our daughter's first name will be Elisa, nickname Ellie.

I don't know about the name yet. I do have one particular name that I like, but for some reason I don't want to tell anyone ! Ellie is a very nice name too. Hmmm......Ellie.....let me go ask my husband....

Very cute thread, Mary! Our daughter will be named Olivia Frances and we already call her Olivia. She even had an ornament on our Christmas tree last year with her name on it and she won't even be here until the fall of 2007! Frances was my Mom's name and she passed away in 2001, so I wanted to Olivia to have her name. If Olivia's Chinese name is something lovely (not Fang!) we'll keep part of it as a second middle name. If not, we may just chose a Chinese name to add. To be honest, I don't even remember us deciding to name her Olivia! She's already so real to us it's hard to believe she's yet to be born! By the way, she even has a nickname already - Roly Poly Oly!

My daugter's name is Mira Lin. We will be going to get her in late August or early September. We started calling her by name and talking about her when we got our log in date. I felt like she was already born at that point. I combined Mira's godmother's first name (Miriam) and my middle name (Rae) to come up with Mira. I let my husband choose a Chinese middle name so he could feel he helped and he liked Lin!

I'm pretty sure she'll be Ruby Katherine ChineseName, though we've been tossing around other ideas. Ruby is my grandmother, Katherine is after my mother and his mother (Kathryn and Karen, both derived, apparently, from Katherine).

I really like the name Elin (Ee'-lin), and my much-beloved great grandmother was Ruth, so the other option might be to name her Elin RuSomething, Ru from both Ruth and Ruby, of course, but also a Chinese name.

I like Katherine as a first name, too, but there are so many Katie's right now!

We know our daughter's first name will be Mei(which means sister). And we want to call her Mei Mei as a nick name(means Little sister). As for her middle name I think we will wait for her referral.

Our daughters name will be Winter. We plan on using her Chinese given name as her middle name.

Our other two were named by their birthfamilies ... (at least we think our daughter was). I would have liked to keep that tradition, but.

Nobody was too warm to the idea of using an orphanage name in a tonal language for a call-name, so we will use Ariel (husband's grandmother's name) and her orphanage name for her middle name.

We haven't even submitted our application yet, but I've always loved Lauren. Years ago, before the miscarriages, I've always thought this would be my name for a girl. The name has been tucked away for a while, but I still really like it.

Of course this is subject to change, and we may add part of her Chinese name, however, we have selected the name Jasmine MacKenzie Jazzie for her nickname What do you think?

I just love all of the names posted here, I started replying to all of them. MY DH and I always refer to Winter by her name. I think it makes us feel closer to her, and gives her a real identy to us.
I do have one friend that really hates the name that I have chosen and constantly reminds me of that. Does anyone else have that same problem?

There will always be someone who doesn't like the name you've chosen because it's not a mainstream top 10 name. I like it! She will definitely be the only Winter in her class! I also like unusual names, but my husband wouldn't go for them. I considered: Harmony, Haven, Felicity, Saige, Daisy, Bethany, Ruby, and Trinity. I couldn't get my husband to like any of these. His favorite name is Amanda, which is okay but I wanted something less common. He then suggested Lisa, and I said I thought it was too 70ish but how about Elisa? He said he liked that even better so we went with that. Maybe I shouldn't give up on my unusual name list...I could choose one as a middle name to go along with a Chinese middle name.

It's fun to choose a name!
