Moving within same city

I've seen this topic on other forums, perhaps here. What has been your experience about moving within the same city during the wait for referral? I heard it's relatively simple/painless that once you move into your new place you alert your SW who stops by, inspects and writes an update/addendum to the HS and sends to China.

Anyone with experience here?

Linda,

We will now be moving for the second time in about three weeks. The first time was during our wait for the 171H. I don't recommend anyone move during that time. The BCIS really screwed up. But this next time will be easier. Just remember to Change your address with CIS too so you won't have any delays if you're fingerprints expire, which mine will. I'm kinda glad we are moving, decorating a new house will help to pass the time!

HI,
We're moving too. However, we're moving within the same state but not the same city. We were told that all it would require for us is a home study update once we get settled into our new place.

I wish you well! Moving is such a chore!
Blessings!

Thanks! We haven't decided yet, just weighing the options. Hopefully it won't matter before we travel to China. We'll see.
I feel much better now you're the 3rd person to say it is not expected to be complicated.

We're moving but not saying a word to our SW. We sure as heck don't want to introduce any complication into our file! If CCAA doesn't have to pull our dossier to file the addendum, then they can't forget to refile it where it should be.

"It's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission!" That's my motto!

Summer,

You don't file the addendum before you travel. You file it while you are in China and they are filling out your official paperwork. Then it all goes in a file together. I was told that we better have everything correct so that the BCIS and the Chinese Government have corresponding info which will be needed for the Citizenship Certificate and Social Security Card. Maybe it's just me, but after having paperwork returned to the CIS because it couldn't be forwarded to our new address already messed me up once.

My thought is, how will my SW find me, if my phone number changes as well as my address to send all my referral info. I almost certainly would have to tell her? I guess i'm a bit confused. If i understand you, then I would have the SW visit and then take a copy of the addendum to China but she'll have send the BCIS an addendum already?

If you move at any time during the adoption process, you MUST have a homestudy addendum . This will require the social worker to inspect your new home, and possibly to ask you some questions about how your financial position, employment, etc. has been affected by the move. There will be a charge for this addendum.

Often, when you move into a new home, things aren't exactly "right" for your needs. Remember that if there are any big safety issues, you will need to have them addressed BEFORE the social worker visits. For example, if your new home has a pool that isn't fenced in, you will almost always need to have it fenced in before you can be approved.

The homestudy addendum MUST be sent to the USCIS. Your placement agency will also want to send a copy to the CCAA. And when you travel, you will have to hand carry a copy of the addendum for the people at the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou.

In many ways, it is easier to move before you have a child than afterwards, I know. But moving during the adoption process CAN be a bit of a pain. Ideally, the best time to move is BEFORE you even begin the homestudy process.

My husband just accepted a new job offer and will be making about $100K more per year than before. We're looking to move so he can be closer to work and spend less time on the freeway and more time at home with is new daughter. The house we'll buy will be substantially better than our current house even though our current house is just fine.

We're less than a month from referral and it's too close to imagine throwing a monkey wrench into the works by announcing a job and house change!

Our China Facilitator has our cell phone number and we'll put in a change of address so everything will still reach us okay. Our "agency" won't know about our job/house change until the 6 month post placement report.

If we had more time to mess around with this, we would. But it's just too close to referral and travel to risk screwing it all up to get an addendum and new 171, etc.

A friend of mine broke her leg and had to get a new HS addendum and it changed her LID! There's no way we're going to risk it!

ah...
makes sense now... I would imagine you would also have items fedexed/mailed to a place (work?) where the change of address won't matter.
I'm liking this idea. But right now I won't need to be concerned. Unless we do in fact move before referral.
