I know there is a one year wait between children when adopting from China, but what date is that one year from?

Is it from the actual day you pick the first child up in China? Or from DTC? In other words, if you adopt a child, when can you send your second dossier? How does it all work?

Dear Paige,
The way I understand it, one must wait one year after the arrival of the first child before submitting the second dossier to China.
But I could be wrong and if you are in the process of adopting now, you might want to ask your agency, to make sure.

My memory tells me that it's one year from after the adoption of the prior child. We'll planning to travel/adopt in August and will plan to be DTC the next August. If things go as they currently are, that will put our girls adoptions about 18 months apart. Hopefully their ages will be similarly spaced.

It's from the time you bring her home. Most agencies will allow you to start the paperchase again about 4-6 months from the one yr. mark. Shelley who is also in FL.

Hi Paige,

Our agency says that your dossier can't arrive in China until 12 months after your "gotcha day" when you pick up the baby you are waiting for now. So, they recommend you begin dossier prep about 6 months after returning home from China on the theory that it will take you about 5-6 months to get your second (or subsequent) dossier together. They don't recommend starting the subsequent dossier prep process much earlier than 6 months after your "gotcha day" because, as you know, some documents expire in short order. Hope this helps!
