Letter of Intent vs Home Study Report?
Okay,
For those of you who have experienced similar situation....or those who can answer this...does the CCAA go more by the Letter of Intent or the Home Study when referring a child? I'm asking because in our letter of intent we specified a healthy female, whereas in our Home Study our SW said we would accept a male or female with minor correctable needs. I'm sort of concerned as I don't know what is considered a "minor correctable need". I have heard it can include issues such as skin rashes....but not sure of much else. While we would prefer a healthy child, we are willing to accept minor (very minor) health issues, and I guess the not knowing what is considered minor is throwing me for a loop. Does anyone know if CCAA goes more by the letter or the home study or does anyone know what medical issues are considered minor and correctable? Thanks so much! |

From my understanding...
My understanding is that CCAA goes by your letter of intent first and foremost. Most people need to get a HS update prior to travel that states you will accept minor special needs or special needs in case your child is sick.. such as a cold or skin rash or something equally small. Minor may also include a child who needs glasses or the like. Minor would NOT include cleft affected children or children in need of surgery, I would guess. Please remember that the majority of SN children have needs that are easily corrected with surgery. Cleft affected children can be surgically repaired and lead a completely healthy and normal life. If a child is classified as SN then the matching and referral process is very different.
I hope this helps! Mary

Thanks Mary...
....that makes sense to me....and was along the lines of what I was thinking would be the way it's done. It does make sense that stating "healthy" would sort of go against those really minor things like a cold, etc. Cleft lip would even be fine with me....so that's not a biggie either.
Thanks so much! |

I heard of a case in which a baby had a heart murmur and if the parents had not specified that they would be open to special needs, they would not have been allowed to bring the baby home. But they did, so they were able to. Otherwise they would have not brought home a child.

Ohhh...
....that would be terrible!
Well, I'm glad it's on there then. I would hate to go there and not be able to bring my child home because of the wording on something. |
