Twins?

My dh and I were deciding whether we wanted to try for twins, and wanted to know if anyone else had gone this route. If you are interested in adopting twins, does this prolong the adoption process? Does it cost more in fees when you adopt twins? Any advice posted would be very helpful. Thanks!

You can get approved for twins by your homestudy and by our government but that does not guarentee twins. It is up to China and what children are avaible when you are matched. I have heard different stats 1 in 300 or 1 in 600 adoptions are sets of twins. Basicly of all the 10,000 or so adoptions there are less than 100 sets of twins in the US. But that dose not mean it couldn't be you. Not everyone gets approved for twins so that step increasses your odds. We are approved for twins but are waiting to see.

The fees are higher for adopting twins and the income requirement is higher for the family.

At a minimum you are paying for 2 orphanage donations and all the associated costs/fees for the adoption while in China (visa, passport, physical exam.. notary fees...).

You can find out particulars from your agency.

I was just told at a seminar yesterday that the income requirement for twins is over $100,000... My first thought was, "That is ridiculous," though I certainly can be wrong. Nothing I've read to this point has ever indicated a requirement that high. If I am wrong, why would the income requirement jump from $10,000 per person to over $25,000 per person in a 4 person household?

We were thinking about twins too. We spoke to our agency about it and what they told us is that twins are very few and far between. They suggested get the approvals needed for twins, but word everything kind of like "you are more than willing to accept twins, but would be extremly happy with a placement of just one baby". They said that if you do request "twins" that it may delay the process for you and that after let's say a couple of months extra wait, that you can not just "change your mind" and say, ok now we would just be happy with one. They said China does not look favorable on the changing of the mind. I would check with your agency to see what they say, but that is what we were told.

A family adopted twins from our agency in May. I think different agencies have different requirements. The family that traveled with us did not have to wait longer for twins. Others who have requested twins were referred a single child without extra wait.

Your request to CCAA is just that... a request. CCAA will decide what is the best match for each family. We requested an infant girl and were referred our amazing two year old son!

Open communication with your agency is the key. They are the ones who you are directly working with. They will tell you what their stand is on this issue and others.

Follow your heart and talk to you agency.

Mary
