How long are people waiting to receive a referral from China? I have heard that it could be anywhere from 8 months to 18 months?

... the wait is 7-8 months from the time your dossier goes to China (DTC) to the time you get a referral. Then you travel 4-6 weeks later.

On the a-parents-china yahoo listserv, you can track the average wait from DTC to referral. I would also urge you to join that listserv because there are over 10,000 families in all stages of the adoption process who are members.

My husband and I are working with an agency in Texas, our paperwork is now being certified and authenticated, then to China in September. I have been following referral time with our agency for the last year. It is now to about 6 months, at least the last 3 referrals have been.

Our agency said they have been receiving referrals at 5-8 months. I know the Feb. referrals are in! But remember, this could change at any time. For some reason, the wait could go back up again. No one can predict if or when it will change.

I would go with a 5-8 month guess as well.
Not all of the Feburary referrals came in. We are Feb 11 and did not get ours. Our agency got up to the 10th while some agencies got up to the 20th. People who were the 10th had a 5 month wait while we will have a 6 months wait (we hope). Try not to count on any specific number. It just will drive you nuts!

We just sent our LOI for a waiting child. We are working on our dossier. does anyone know what the approximate wait time is for a waiting child?

wow, what a blast from the past. Look how old this thread is -- and look at what the wait time was when it was started, in july, 2004.

Its gone from 5-8 months to 12+ in just 10 months time. considering what is happening now, its almost funny. well it would be funny if it weren't so tragic!

We waited 10 months from DTC to referral. We got our referral at the end of January.

things have changed alot since january even! the wait time for the latest batch of referrals was over 11 months, longer if you count from DTC.

More importantly, The next batch ( which will start with mid june 05 LIDS and will probably come at the end next month) will have had a 12+ month wait. Again, longer if you count from DTC.

Back to Lesa's question. The wait time is shorter than 12 months for waiting children -- I am sure someone else knows how much shorter.

We are also adopting a waiting child. We sent our LOI on April 26 and have a LID of May 19. From what I have seen, the wait from LOI or LID (whichever is later) to TA is anywhere from 2-4 months. Travel is about 4-8 weeks after TA, depending on how quickly your agency can secure a consulate appointment.

The timeline is a bit faster if you are switching from NSN to WC. I have friends that submitted their LOI in early April, received, PA by the end of April and receive TA last Friday. So a little over 6 weeks from LOI to TA - they are hoping to travel in June.
