Adaptive Bike?

Does anyone have an adapted bike for their child, what is it like, how did you find it, etc.

We are trying to find a bike with the adapted pedals for my son... its harder to find than I imagined!

Red face

I tried the adaptive pedals, but my daughter's legs are not long or strong enough to pedal yet. This website has adaptive pedals:

Special Needs Bike - Adaptive Bicycle

My friend's son uses the adaptive trike and she holds a yearly fundraiser to help families buy adaptive trikes for their children. I will ask her about it.

Sometimes hospitals who treat special kiddos can loan out the bikes.

We got a bike from an organization called Ambucs. Ours is called the AnTryke. Has adaptive foot pedals, and we can steer with the handle if we need to .

We have this from this site. Its VERY heavy but its a hit with all the kids. Find AmTryke Special Needs Tricycles -adaptivemall.com

I think this is generally a good site to find adaptive stuff for kids on. They are absolutely fabulous on the phone and I have ordered a lot of stuff from them over the years.

Actually, if you only want adaptive pedals you might go to a local bike store and just get him the pedals that your foot slides into. If you have a specialty bike shop in your area, I can almost garuntee you that someone there will make you something for a regular trike.

Another thing my DD can do and really enjoy is this plasma car. Plasma Car Ride-On by PlaSmart PlasmaCar - Toychute For some reason, the geometry of the thing makes it safe and useable for her.
