O/T Sick Toys

Yesterday, while cleaning I kept watching L going back and forth with her dolls diaper bag & carseat.
So I stopped a minute to watch closer. She was taking all of her babies one by one to her brothers room.

On her way back to her room I asked her what she was doing, she told me that her babies were SICK.
I just smiled and asked her whats wrong with them. She began to tell me that this one has to go to the dentist, this one's tummy hurts, this one needs therapy, this one has to see the eye doctor.

After assuring her that all of them felt better now. I began to think "My God my baby thinks that being sick and going to alot of doctors is normal"

It just took me back, because I never even thought what going to so many appointments did to her.
She's always went to each one with a smile, and never complained one bit.

And now she is taking all of my grand babydolls to lots of doctors too, when she should be having tea parties and such.

Well, maybe she'll grow up to be a doctor or a famous researcher that discovers cures for rare diseases. As long as she is happy and smiling, I would worry. Mommy may need to sit down and play tea party or have a picnic in the kitchen floor. She'll be fine. She knows that she has a good mommy that takes care of all her needs which for her means appointments. She's just being the same good mommy and why shouldn't her dolls be just like her?

Awww...it's actually really cute, imo. She's able to work it out in her mind and create some empathy and even fun out of it through imaginary play.

I think given her good attitude about it, she's accepted that this is part of HER normal, kwim? It's not as if going to docs is all you guys do and you do have family time, school, fun etc. too.

I went to speech therapy twice a week for years before going just once a week. Numerous appts. at audiologists, hospitals for xrays and new treatments etc. Obviously not as much as all you guys do, but I never relate those times now as an adult to anything negative. It just was what it was. My mom also did a couple of fun things after some of the appts. with me and we'd go for ice cream or to a movie etc. every so often after "big" appts. Maybe try that?

She's playing mommy the way she knows how. And if she is doing it with a smile, you are doing a good job! This is her life, she gets lots of mommy time and doesn't seem to mind it. It's really very sweet.

We had a similiar experience with Big Sis. When she was playing with a pretend medical kit with her teacher she took out the syringe and put it in the baby's belly (Teeter's meds are administered with unneedled syringes through his g-tube in his belly). Its amazing what they'll pick up on.

She is just playing what she knows. There is no Should when it comes to how kids play, every kid makes up thier own play. My kids play going to another country to get a baby, that's where kids come from, LOL. It's interesting to watch the phases they go through. P for instance has a doll that has prosthetic legs a lot like hers. For a while she loved that doll and it was her favorite. But then she went through a phase where she did not like that doll at all, and she did not like her doll wheelchair or crutches. She is still in the phase where she wants nothing to do with disabled dolls. Of course now she is totally into Hannah Montana and only plays with her HM doll.
She is playing what she knows and probably will go through phases of how she plays. My neices always play living with extended family. They have never lived with just mom, they have always had some other relatives living with them. So to them that is normal, it's odd to them to live with fewer people. Oh and P's dolls used to get lots of surgery when she was young. LOL. I was hoping she would grow up to be a doctor, but now she wants to be a pop star. LOL
