In 1956 St. Vincent's Catholic Home for Children in Phila, PA housed my sister Debra Ann born July 1953, brothers George Stuart born July 1954 and John Joseph born July 1955 until they were adopted out! I have been trying to find them for years. St. Vincent's, I am told, is no longer on Allegheny Ave. Catholic Services is no help @ all! Laws regarding "closed adoptions" haven't budged! Does anyone know of forums, search sites to post this. I have spent hours reading and not a clue! I was born in 1959, I am happily married with a daughter and two sons of my own, but I am still longing for my siblings! How can I find my family?

I was adopted through Catholic Charities in Houston, Texas in September of 1964. I received limited information from them regarding my birthparents because it was a closed adoption. However I do know that my name given at birth was Deborah Michelle and I was born on September 18, 1964. My birthmother was 25 years old and divorced at the time with a son age 2 years of age. I truly would love to meet my brother and birthfather, though I am not sure he even knows of my existance. Please help any way possible!

Looking for My Adopted sister, Born in PA
Hello, my name is Nicole. And I have been searching for my adopted sister.
Some facts: She was born in Berwick, Pa at the Berwick Hospital Center. Her birth name was Christine. Her adoption was done by Catholic Charities. Now, the age I am not clear on. I have red many of the post here regarding Catholic Charities and how the birthdate can be change. My mom was so heartbroken by having to put her up for adoption that her memory on the date is not clear, and no one at the doctor's office will seem to help her. All she wanted for my sister was a good home and parents that were able to provide her with what my mom couldn't at the time. My mom would love to find her as well. My mom's name is Florence and she is 62 years old. Her last name at the time was Hunsinger. The year is either 1971 or 1972. If anyone has any information that could help us, please PM me. I would love to get to know my sister. It has always felt like someone was missing in our family. I have two older sisters and an older brother and we would all love to find her as well. God Bless, Nicole |

Thanks for the information Colleen, but I really don't think it will help in my position.
I have contacted Catholic Charities in our area and basically they said that I can't do anything, because there is no notification on my sister's chart stating she has made any contact with them, therefore, we cannot try to make conntact and they won't release any information. That is why I signed up for this site, hoping and praying that maybe soneone out there can help, or possibly my adopted sister searches this forum. I am beginning to think that she was never told. I am up for anyone's opinion or information someone can provide on what I may be able to do. Thanks again, Nicole |

absolutely no help from catholic charities
I contacted Catholic Charities, Springfield, IL back in September of 2003. I have yet to get a response from them on ANYTHING. I have contacted them several times since and still get the run around..."we are very backed up on searches"..."the person who normally does searches is no longer with us"...stuff like that. It's been almost a year and I've pretty much given up on Catholic Charities for any help in finding my daughter. I gave her up for adoption in 1979 through Catholic Services in Quincy, IL. She was born Sept. 29, 1979. I really think I am pretty much on my own here, because I seriously doubt whether Catholic Charities will ever help me with actually finding her...I think they want my cash...period.

willowtree9963 - I know what you mean.
I am beginning to think the same thing about Catholic Charities. As long as they get your money, they don't care. If anyone has any other suggestions for us, please let us know. Goodluck to you and your search! Nicole |
