Catholic charities adoptions and foster homes - a question

I just have a question for those of you adopted through Catholic Charities (anywhere) during the 1950's. Did you spend time in a foster home before you were adopted? If you did, do you know how long it was? I was in a foster home for six months before being adopted, and have just found out that was an unusually lengthy amount of time. I'm just curious, that's all. Thanks for your help.

I was born in 1968 and was in a foster home for 16 months. This was in NY.

Hello,

I was born in 57 in Manhattan and placed in a foster home (I think in the Boston area) until I was six months. Catholic Charities have told me recently that this was 'not unusual' at the time. I don't know the real reason - too many babies or if they were waiting to see if the baby was 'normal', so to speak. At this point, I trust very little that they tell me.

Mary - I have a question for ya. My mom told me that she went to Catholic Charities initially, and then worked with a lawyer to do a private adoption. Dept of Social Services is where my Non ID info came from. My question, I thought you may know is, what is the relationship between Catholic Charities and Dept of Social Services? Does it sound like my adoption was "taken" from Catholic Charities and turned into a private adoption? I don't understand the procedure then went though in 1967. Thanks.

Reviewing my posts and information I know have - I think my parents went right down to DSS - not Catholic Charities. When I have called CC in the past, they didn't have any info on me, but i don't know how they can tell. All I have is a DOB. Bmom did request parents be catholic I was told though. I still wonder if there is any connection though.
