Hi, trying to get something started. We have a13 yr old son in Catholic school. He is so excited about the prospect of becoming a brother. He prays nearly every day to St.Joseph, he said when we started the adoption process that Joseph adopted Jesus into his heart, kind of like us. Everyone at his school knows. Actually there are quite a few families in the parish that have adopted in the past, the school counseler adopted both of her children. It feels good to have support like that. We hope and pray every day, let me know all of you are.We can encourage each other.

We are Catholic and adopting special-needs. Our future son, who we will meet this coming saturday, is 11 years old and has been in foster care for about a year. We can't wait to meet him and bring him home!
We also have 4 bio kids. One is grown and in the army (age 18), three still at home. (aged 13, 12, and 7). Happy |

Hello-
We are awaiting our first also! We are so excited and I can't wait to send ours to Catholic School. We have one picked out and there is a 2-3 year waiting list. There was a question on education on our autobio and so it forced us to really think what our plans were. I am Catholic and my husband attended a Christian church, which he is leaning toward Catholism now, but we are very much in agreement to raise our baby Catholic. Good Luck everyone! |

We are both Catholic and are awaiting the arrival of our first. Our school of choice also has a waiting list. We have been told to add our names to the list as soon as we get her home. We both went to Catholic schools and agree we now appreciate the strict discipline and very structure curriculum we received. Boy are those nuns tough!!

I am Catholic and have a 10 year old adopted daughter. While I attended Catholic School, I have my daughter in the local public school. If your child has special needs, you may want to consider public school. They have more resources available. I made sure I lived in a good school district. If your child does not need specialized teaching, then I say go Catholic School, the discipline is excellent.
My daughter was baptized catholic after finalization, and is preparing for first communion. |

peggy- your right, I work in the public school and they do have great resources for special needs kids. Whereas, the Catholic School we're interested in does not.
I think the strict discipline and structured curriculum is a real plus in Catholic School! The public schools in our area really lack in the area of strict discipline but, are very good in the structured curriculum. It amazed me what kids get away with today versus when I was a kid IN PUBLIC SCHOOL. In defense of the public schools, it is some "sue happy" parents that have tied the hands of public schools on disciplinary issues. Just the way I see it.... |

Hi we're also adoptionpregnant (my friends all got to be pregnant & in a way I am too) waitting for our first. Our baby will be a second generation adoption, I too was adopted.
Another Saint to pray to is St Gerard, he is the patriant Saint of expecting mothers. You need to pray not only that we'll make good parents but also that the birthmother will have a healthy pregnancy and good delivery. We spent so much time praying to him during our invetro attempts that when it failed I wasn't too happy with him. Then I realized it's not me I was praying for but my babys b-mom. Anyone interested can find info on him online. Good luck all moms-be |

St. Gerard
I received a St. Gerard medal as a gift from a fellow nurse i work with, as soon as we started our adoption journey. I hope and pray every day for the baby meant for us. By the way, our son got his acceptance letter to a really good Catholic HS today! I was relieved and happy, now adoption here we come...

We have great news!! We received a call from a birthmom Sunday night, she's 4months and after hours of talking on the phone as well as speaking to our attorney she has chosen us!!
That morning I had been praying to St. Gerard and told him I am at the end of my rope here- I need some help; and he did. If all goes as planned, we'll be a family by August. Keep praying for your birthmoms that they make the best decision for that baby. |

Adopting internationally
Hello,
I'm Catholic, my husband is not. We have a five year old daughter in Catholic preschool now, and she is enrolled there for kindergarten. It is tough to decide what to do for first grade, as our public school has just built a new building opening next year. One year at a time. I was raised in the Catholic school system. Is it the best, probably not. Does it teach morality, religion, respect, etc. - you'd better believe it. I try to decide what is more important. Did I suffer because my grammar schools didn't have the same equipment/opportunities at the public schools? Maybe a little. But when trouble arises, I am a grounded person because of my faith. School didn't teach me everything, my parents and home environment did too. But, I do feel the religion you learn in the Catholic school system is far superior to CCD. Most children in CCD have barely seen a church. Trust me I'm not the perfect Catholic, I have no room to criticize anyone. Anyways, we are waiting for a referral from Poland. We have had our paperwork in for six months now. We are hoping for a little boy 3-4 years old. The waiting seems like forever!!!! I just know I want our son-to-be to know there is a God and he is here to help us! Prayer is powerful and can be quite comforting. Good luck to all of you in your journeys! |

Catholic adoptions
My husband and I just adopted our little girl and little boy from Kazakhstan (they are 9 months and 12 months)
We just went to Baptism class here in GA and plan on going back to NY (where our friends and family are) to Christen the babies. Our journey was wonderful and I hope that all of you get to see your angels soon!!!! Our adoption is documented on a photo journal - www.thecorreias.com take a peak! Best, Denise |

We're waiting for our first...we've made contact with a pbm through our agency...she told us that some of the reasons we were chosen was because we are catholic...and she is not, but she said she agrees with what the church believes in...plus, we said in our letter that we were praying for her. Boy, everyone needs prayer!
Jusy my perspective on parochial vs. public schools. I attended catholic school and independent private schools, and I teach in a very well respected public school district. My opinion is that unless your child has specific needs that cannot be met by a catholic school, I would home school before I'd send my kid to public school. It's not just the structure that puts catholic schools ahead of the game, but your child will not be exposed to some of the less desirable trends in education. Plus, he or she will be shielded, somewhat, from the pressures of fashion, foul language, and disrespect that flows out of today's kid culture. |
