Does anyone know of a Catholic Adoption Agency in California, specifically Orange and L.A counties? We are currently working with a Christian agency. We like that they value us as a committed, married, Christian, church-going couple. (Our previous agency did not place any value on these attributes) However, it seems that the birthmothers that they minister to are not looking for a Catholic family, but more of non-denominational "Christian" family. Is there any way to reach Catholic birthmothers?

Hi - We have Catholic Charities where we are and I think they are nationwide (we are heathens(LOL) - Lutheran and Episcopalian)...my DH who likes EVERYONE did not like their social worker though...

ANYWAY back to the point, check with your Priest - he may have better connections than you think - I know I talked to my 7th grade Sunday School teacher last week and they had a lot of help from our Pastor when they adopted their 2 children (now grown and almost grown)

Thanks for the reply. Catholic Charities does not provide any adoption services in my area. It has been very frustrating, our Pastor seems to know very little about adoption and networking in our Diocese, and the Diocese does not seem to do anything in terms for adoption advocacy. There seems to be a lot of ministering to unwed mothers who chose to parent their babies (which is good and necessary), but I can not find any advocacy for adoption. I guess maybe I should do something about that, but I am so caught up in finding a baby to adopt that I don't see how I could start up a Diocese wide ministry at this point. Anyway, maybe something to look into in the future....

You may want to try placing an ad in your local or state wide Catholic paper. In my homestate of Washington we have placed ads in the Catholic progress.There are usually agencies with pamplets given out to young women with crisis pregnancy, they deal with adoption agencies also.

We are currently working with Holy Family. They are located in Pasadena.

We are in the early stages of the process but we have a very good feeling about them.

We worked with Catholic Community Services in Colorado Spings. I would NEVER encourage anyone to work with them. Several of us had bad experiences with them, granted our adoption was a success the caseworkers were a nightmare esp. the birthmothers caseworker!!
