Expanding on StorkWatcher's Prayer Post..
Storkwatcher - I didn't want to hijack your post...
Can someone tell me what the patron saints for adoption are? I've been reading about St. Gerard and looking for a prayer, but they all seem very tied to birth and make me feel like an imposter...

St. Thomas More is a patron saint of adoption, as is St. William of Rochester. I found that online at www.catholic.org. I personally have a St. William medal and we have William as one of Jack's middle names.

St. Gerard's prayer says "beseech the master of life..from who all paternity procedith..to render me fruitful in offspring". I like to think this could pertain to being an adoptive mom as well.

Yes St William is and St Thomas Moore are for adoption. St. Gerard and St Anne are for mothers...and I think those are ALL moms.

Feel free to hijack!
While we were waiting, I prayed to St Gerard, because my cousin's husband's mother (who knew Kevin Bacon - no just kidding) prayed to him when she was pregnant. I prayed for the woman saints who I thought would be special intentions for mothers - both for me and the birthmom. Including those were Mary and St Anne and St Elizabeth (the Catholic Charities agency we used is St Elizabeth's). St Thomas More, St Clothilde and St William of Rochester are noted patron saints of adoption. Oops - I just noticed everyone else's posts. I guess you got some answers! I also prayed to my and my hubby's patron saints and when we were choosing names, to our son's patron saint name.

I was just reading Catholic Digest last night and came accrossed an article about St. Clotilda born in Lyon France about 474. She is the patron saint for adopted children. I don't think I am allowed to copy the article but I thought maybe that might interest some. It is an interesting story.
