Heart Have you read any good faith based books lately?

I am looking to get some new reading material. Have you read any good faith based books that you would like to share?

Are you looking for fiction works? I have really enjoyed The Mitford Series books, by Jan Karon. they are about an Episcapalean Father whose life changes dramatically afer his 60th birthday, first with a large dog "adopting" him, then with him getting permanent guardianship of a very troubled boy, then with him falling in love and getting married. There are about 8 books, starting with "At Home In Mitford".
Jean Kirkpatrick also has some really wonderful faith based novels. She has a series about some women that head out on a wagon train on the Oregon Trail. Due to unfortunate circumstances they find themselves separated from the main train and traveling without the protection of adult men. Faith and fellowship get them through. I believe the first novel in the series is "All Together In One Place".... but maybe that is one of the later novels.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to hharm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

For non-fiction, I highly recommend any of the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich! They are amazing! She was given visions of the Garden of Eden, of Joseph's life, of Mary's life, of Jesus' life... all throughout the Bible. I bought a series of 4 books which were expensive, but worth every penny. Things in the Bible make so much more sense now (ie why they did things the way they did). :-)

ewtn.com has many books (but I think mostly non fiction) in its catalogue.

Any of Karen Kingsbury books are good. They are not based on the Catholic religion but they are very God centered and spiritual.

I'm reading a series of her books now. They include adoption and are the only fiction books that have adoption in them that do not portray the birthparents in a negative way. I love how they portray the birthfamily in these books!

I forgot to mention that Karen Kingsbury adopted 3 boys from Haiti. BAJJ, I have read that whole series and cannot wait until the next book comes out in February. Very good read.

I have two suggestions:

If you want to get closer to Mary, pick up "Behold Your Mother: Mary Stories and Reflections from a Catholic Convert." Includes moving stories from an adoptive mother and Scriptural reflections. This book is offering free shipping if you order by 3/15.

If you want to grow "spiritually fit," check out "Raising Up Mommy:Virtues for Difficult Mothering Moments." It takes a look at the deadly sins and celestial virtues through the lens of motherhood. It's the same author -- an adoptive parent.

The author was on EWTN/Abundant Life this week. Both books are available at here.

I am reading The Catechism - the portion on prayer will be the focus of my year in Familia (FAMILIA)

We read Familiaris Consortio and The Dignity of Women and Motherhood previously. The late Holy Father is a challenge to learn to read, but my, my, my - he is just awesome and inspiring. Besides whoever thought that words like radical and awesome would be prominent in writings?

I also and trying to read True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin by de Monfort - except things have just gotten a bit too busy - so I guess I will drop that for now.

I also love Frank Sheed's Map of Life - it is a great intro to theology.

Grace happens,
Denise
