considering haitian adopton

My husband and I are considering and researching adoption. It's been a long research process for a variety of reasons. We've looked at Ethiopia and are now looking at Haiti.

Can someone share a general current timeline for adoption from Haiti as well as a general process? Also, is the new "3 biological children only" rule supposed to stay in place? Any idea if there will be a relaxing of that rule or are there exceptions to it? We have 4 bio sons and are wanting to adopt a daughter.

The biological "rule" can be waived. You need to write a letter explaining your family situaltion. Haiti is a wonderful place to adopt from. I personally would do it again in a heartbeat! Just have to get DH on board! Anyway Our process was expedited due to Lilly's illness. Typically I think a year is a good rough guideline. Things seems to be moving faster these days. If you have and other questions please PM me. Heidi

Hi, I'm just jumping in since we are contemplating the same thing. Can you clarify the year timeline? Is that from agency application to finish or dossier to finish or referral to finish? It's something I have been wondering. I keep getting the impression it means from application to finish. Thanks!

It really is a case by case basis there. Once your dossier is turned in though. The average time to bring your chld home is a year. In Haiti you can often choose your child even before your dossier is finished so that may be why the confusion. The time line does seem to be speeding us a little though.

Thanks for the help and for answering my questions! I have heard anything from 10-12 months up to 2 years as a timeline. It is a bit confusing at times. But I suppose that's part of the process.

Have to get hubby on board before anything happens of course, but I'm doing research so that we're all ready and prepared when the time comes!

Thanks again!
