Single Parent Adoption in Haiti
I want to adopt a chid that I met while living in Haiti, this fall but have heard that agencies will not permit single women to adopt from Haiti. Does anybody have any experience with this? Has anybody adopted from Haiti independent of an agency, and if so can you recommend a homestudy agency or social worker in the NYC area?

Hi Sara,
Many people adopt from Haiti independently without the use of an agency, but most at least use an orphanage that is used to processing adoptions. Is the child you are interested in already in an orphanage? Do you have a lawyer or need one? Feel free to email or PM me, we can talk more about it. Single women definently do adopt from Haiti - but you must be at least 30. Actually there is a Mom that is adopting her daughter who she is picking up in Dec. that is 28 so they make alot of exceptions. Is this child already assigned to an agency?

She is in an orphanage, and they have their own lawyer that they use in Port au Prince. But I need to find an agency to have a home study done when I get back to New York next month. Where in Haiti are you adopting your daughter from?
