Trip cancelled :(
Hey friends--
We got some bad news yesterday-- our trip to Haiti to work at the orphanage and visit our son was cancelled. Our orphanage is concerned because of a recent kidnapping. I am totally bummed. We have decided to visit some friends in Haiti anyway-- honestly we don't feel that concerned about the security piece. What are your thoughts about security in Haiti right now? We've been following the news pretty closely and don't feel like it's a particularly bad time-- that is, we don't feel like it's any more unstable than any other time.

Who was kidnapped? So are you going but now not allowed to see your son? That is so sad. I feel ok about going now. I am leaving wednesday morning. We will have an escort at all times. I really am not that worried though. I am so sorry that you will be so close and not get to see your son.

Awww- thats sad! Who was kidnapped, I haven't heard anything since the Canadian. I think someone from Haitian Angels just got back from Haiti - I wonder if you could ask on there about the security situation. My mom was living in Haiti DURING the coup last year when president Aristide fled, so I guess it can't be any worse than then! LOL.
Are you going to go to the orphanage and see him yourself though? We travelled with a group the first time we went but all the other times have just travelled on our own to the orphanages. Hope it works out for you to be able to see him. S. sis2kensia@yahoo.com

I think the last one was the Canadian...but I think I read somewhere that kidnappings last month were almost double the usual. Anyway....I'm sad you don't get to see your little one

Yeah-- they are talking about the Canadian I think--
I have heard that crime is "on the rise" too, but it's nowhere like it was last year. Yeah, we're bummed. We are going to ask if we are permitted to visit but we are not going to be too pushy about it because we don't want to "rock the boat". Anyway-- will keep you posted... Monami- have a great time. I can't wait to hear all about it. I don't think that you have any reason to feel unsafe. -Gwenn
