My husband and I are strongly considering adoption in Haiti. We are in contact with One World Adoptions in Georgia, but I also see positive things here about All God's Children and God's Littlest Angels. If anyone has any advice about agencies, and if anyone can give me a realistic timeline for the adoption process in Haiti, I would be most appreciative. Finally, we are particularly interested in adopting two infants, and I wonder if anyone has experience with adopting siblings or unrelated children in Haiti. Thank you so much for your help.

Agencies for Haitian Adoptions
All three of my adoptions have been privately arranged and not through an agency although an agency did my homestudy. My first adoption was completed within six months, the second within nine months, and the one in process has been five months so far but I anticipate that I will be able to go get the girls within the next three months. So the time varies and no one knows what effect the current situation will have on the process.

Another chat group....
We adopted our son from Haiti. We are also members of a Yahoo! chat group called "Haitian Angels". That chat group seems to be quite a bit more active than the Haitian forum here.
Our adoption took a bit over 11 months, and our son's been home since 10/03. There are other families who adopted while we were adopting, and some of theirs took as little as 5 months and others took well over a year. Much depends on the quality of the agency and orphanage you adopt from, and a lot depends on the Haitian and US governments. And now, with the new government taking shape in Haiti, who knows how the adoption process will be affected, but we're hopeful that things will speed up once again and all the Haitian angels in orphanages will get home quickly to their forever families. There are several families I know of who adopted two unrelated infants, and there are twins who become available as well. It should not be a problem for you to adopt two infants as long as your home study has also approved you for it. The only thing is that you may have to wait a while for a referral for two, but there are usually more boys available than girls. This is obviously something your agency (whichever you choose) will talk with you about. There are many, many adoptive parents on that group who have adopted from several different orphanages. Feel free to send me a private message if you'd like more information. Best of luck! Tina |
