I always check in on the kids on the Precious In His Sight photolisting. I first started going there two years ago, and I was really surprised to see them shut down today. I even considered using them in the future. Does anyone know why (specifically). I know there have been lots of reports of problems. On the website it states that it is closed down due to a problem with the Director of Hatian Social Services, but I am wondering if anyone has any more info on if that is true or just a cover. I know there have got to be lots of families that were in the process with them when this happened.Christy |

On October 30 the American Director of PIHS announced that she and PIHS would no longer do adoptions from Haiti, and that included not doing anything to complete the adoptions still in process.
The orphanage that PIHS used was turned over to a former Haitian staff member who is trying to run things and do what can be done for the families involved. A group of adopting parents are working together to try and help as well. Right now IBESR will not release any child or dossier until things are straightened out, however this may be changing as we speak. Repeated attempts to have Mrs Thompson, the former director, explain as to where the money has gone, have gone unanswered. It is hard to say exactly how much is unaccounted for, but it appears to be possibly over $100,000 at least, of missing dollars that were to be used for the specific adoptions that they were given for. Haiti is NOT going to shut down adoptions. Because of this and other problems, IBESR is taking a closer look at all who process adoptions. I have been told that at least two children at the former PIHS orphanage actually received their IBESR approval today. Hopefully with the removal of people and organizations that have caused problems and are less than ethical, things will once again proceed. Mike Carlson |

So disappointed to hear this - never did adopt internationally, and haven't even really thought about Precious In His Sight for a long, long time - but that website was my favourite for a long time, all the photos of those beautiful innocent children, and I wished, wished, wished I had the money and patience to go bring one or three home -
Never researched or investigated what this agency offered; but again so disappointed to know that something that should be beautiful was made ugly - how sad |

Update on PIHS in Toronto Star article
Hi Christy (& everyone):
The link below discusses the current issues with PIHS shutting down. The more I have been reading posts on another Haiti adoption list serve and since reading this article, I have increasing concerns about adopting from Haiti. I am as yet undecided about where I will adopt from, but Haiti had been a definite option because it allows singles to adopt. I am now feeling that adoption from Haiti is risky at this point. Anyone have any thoughts, and know of other single friendly countries?... Please see the link below if interested in reading more: http://www.thestar.ca/NASApp/cs/Cont...d=970599119419 dana |

Hi There,
If you were drawn to Haiti, don't give up just yet! There are so many children waiting there for their forever families. Just make sure you work with a good agency that can show you their track record. We had some problems at the end of October, but have since found a great option for our Haitian adoption... as we speak they are working on transfering children from PIHS and we might just become the lucky parents of a baby boy or girl ![]() www.answeredprayers2.org Good luck with your adoption no matter where you go! ~ Taryn |

Hi Christy,
I have been in constant contact with former members of the former PIHS searching for a little boy I wanted to adopt. The Director of the orphanage told me she was forced to closed down because the Haitian Director of Social Services was requesting bribes for the children placed. There are a few members of the orphange who are finalizing the adoptions that have started prior to the orphanage closing. Some of the children went to other orphanages and some went back to their birth families. Unfortunately, the little boy I was trying to adopt went back to his mother. So right now, it's somewhat of a lost cause but I'm trying not to give up hope. ![]() |
