I wanted to post this in case anyone here would be interested in this campaign to bring fairness to B.C. Right now, residents of BC can only adopt an adult if they have supported that adult as a minor for 2 yrs or more (basically as a foster child). This is a restriction that does not exist in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, California, New York, or many other places.
I have created an information website at
http://www.geocities.com/adultadoptioninbc/ . If you support this campaign for fairness, or if this restriction is impacting your family too, please write to me at
adultadoptioninbc@yahoo.ca. And please pass on this website information to others. I have a family law lawyer who supports this campaign and he is interested in finding other families who he might represent in this also.
This legislation affects step families and other families who may have established loving family relationships after a family member becomes an adult (age 19 in B.C.) and wish to formalize these relationships.
