Mommies to be!
I thought I'd start a thread for those of us "waiting". I'm not really there yet, we are just starting our paperwork and getting our checks done for our second adoption...but within a few months I should be with everyone else...In the mean time, I'm just hurrying to wait..lol

That would be us... we are waiting for #2 as well. With AO for almost 10 months, re-approved with ACS for adoption for almost 9 months, approved as a foster-to-adopt family for 3 months. I think we have our bases covered, lol!
Leigh ~ You might find that the approval/homestudy process goes much faster for #2. It sure did for us. We started with the "2nd time around" seminar in Feb 05 (Bug was a week from 12 months old) hoping to be approved by Sep 05. We were in the books by May!!!! Best of luck this time around! |

Yeah, it definitely seems smoother. I asked about the seminar, but they said i wouldnt have to take it...thank goodness. It's so hard to attend things in a different city, who would look after ds??

I'm a mommy-in-waiting too. We've been homestudy approved since Jan, and are waiting to adopt #2. We are going to the ARE in TO April 8th, maybe we'll find a match, although, we are hoping to adopt privately, we'd love another newborn..so we'll see.
Our son is 2, and our SW approved us to adopt under age 1, so I'm not sure we'll have any luck at the ARE, but it doesn't hurt to get out there.. Michelle |

Oops I think my message went into cyberspace because I dont see it..
I too am a 'mommie' in waiting. We have been with AO almost 3 years now and waiting to be placed with #1. Leigh - I can relate to being in a different city and not being able to attend as much as you like. We lived in Fort McMurray before moving South and the drive was 5.5 hours away. The roads from Fort McMurray to Edmonton are not the roads you wanna be driving on most times so in the Wniter, it was almost a no no for us. If you dont mind my asking - where in Alberta do you live? |

I can't believe I missed this...so sorry!! I think I took too long on another thread, and this one didnt show up as an active one anymore.
I'm in Lethbridge. Wow, 3 years? That's quite a wait, especially with their stats. I'm sorry to hear that, it must be difficult. We waited that long too, we were not active technically for almost two years, so we werent surprised. Have you talked with your social worker about why that might be? Have they given you some suggestions on changing your photo/letter?? I'm not trying to be mean or insensitive...I am just wondering if there is anything you can do to help promote yourself. big hugs to you.Leigh |

We are 2 1/2 hours out of the city too... it does make it tough. Fortunately, DH's brother and family had just moved into the city so it helped with child care! |

We're waiting for approval! I have no idea how long that takes from submitting our application to Alberta Social Services?
We are waiting for the next step and ready for anything! Is everyone else waiting for a newborn baby to adopt? We're hoping to adopt an older child to join our family! |

We are waiting for a child newborn to 9 months. We want to preserve birth order in our family. You haven't heard anything from ACS yet ? |

It "depends" unfortunately on SO many factors. If you are in a large region (city) it could take awhile. Our initial app was approved in our area, a much less populated area, very quickly but then we waited for our homestudy for nearly two years. It should NOT be that for you because your child desired includes an older child. Hope you hear something soon! |

Hi Leigh,
We just actually met with our SW last week and updated our homestudy. We were matched and placed in September of last year but it fell through on day 8 of the 10. We were matched again in Ontober of last year but that too fell through. Now we wait. We wondered why as well but I guess we are waiting as long as we are because the right birthmom and baby ha snot come our way yet :-) When you say you were inactive for 2 years do you mean you chose to be or your file was not shown the first two years? |
