Heart Sending our Application for Adoption!

Hi!

Our family lives in Alberta! We're anxiously hoping to adopt an older little girl into our family (between 5 and 9 years old)

We're waiting for our child welfare checks and criminal record checks to come back before we send it in. We have a package made up of our adoption application, our homestudy questionaires, criminal record checks and child welfare checks before we send them. We don't want to miss ANYTHING!!!

We're sooo excited! We can't wait to take our adoption course!

Congrats on your beginning the process. The adoption course was wonderful! We loved it! It is intense, but so informative.
Go to the Alberta Children's Services website, lots of great information about adoption in Alberta and also the Photolisting. Google "Alberta Childrens Services" to find it.

Best of luck!

Phillis,

Are you hoping to adopt a baby or an older child? I'm wondering why you have been waiting so long for a child?

We were told that with adopting older children the process is fairly quick!

We have always wanted to adopt a child that was younger than our youngest. At the time we started the process she was 3 1/2, she is now 5 1/2! So I guess you can say that our range has expanded over the years!

I wish you the best of luck for the process, I hope for you that it is quick. Can I ask what you define as quick? I would say treat it like a pregnancy, at least nine months would be quick in my opinion. Don't want to be doom and gloom, but no one from our parent prep has been successful adoption yet. Now I've heard other stories of other people and success. Adoption is truly not for the faint of heart, or for impatient people (which I am by the way) But here I am 2 years later and still hopeful.

We truly have had down times where we feel like throwing in the towel. Last August we were pretty much done, but we came around by October and our hope was renewed.

We are in the thought that what is meant to be, will be. If God wants us to parent another child, it will happen. I guess you can say, we are letting our faith guide us.

So best of luck, I hope the process is a joyful one!

Hi Phillis,

We were thinking in a year two would be quick, in our terms! We are treating it like another pregnancy, we just choose not to have a baby join our family!

We weren't too picky in what we would accept in our adopted child. We have children that have special needs and are more than prepared to parent another child with special needs. So we aren't only looking for the "perfect child". We're hoping this will help with our match making!

If you don't mind me asking, in the last 2 years have you been offered any children to adopt?

No, we haven't been offered any children to adopt. We have inquired for about 6 children since we have been approved, but with no luck!

Again, I hope things work out better for you, but like I said before, I still have hope
