Hey Everyone.
I just joined the group in hope to speak to other families who have adopted here in Ontario. DH and I have been TTC for over 5yrs now and I suffer from Infertility. I've had several m/c and recently just experienced a m/c with twins and a ectopic all at once!! DH and I now have discussed the adoption route-- My CAS here does not do homestudies right now as they do not have enough staff. We need to pay for the hs and go through a private practioner. Just wondering how long the whole process went for everyone, and your experience on adoption. talk to everyone soon. Jody. |

Sorry I'm not helpful with CAS although I have heard of some success stories. We're in Alberta. So sorry about your losses. Hoping things work out for you soon...

Sorry have no idea about Ontario, except I wish the provincial laws about adopting were similiar. We have our homestudy complete and are adopting from BC. Have had one proposal(lots of prospects on web) but it seems like when you do this process all you do is hurry up and WAIT. There are X amount of older sibling groups in BC but only so many workers and they are all overloaded hmmmmm. any comments?

hello, we are in Alberta too, sorry probably not much help with Ontario.
We are going through Alberta Children's Services, and are moving to Foster/Adopt program from the straight adopt program. We have been in the process for 2 years now. Our paperwork was done January 2004, we started our parent prep classes in April 2004. Our homestudy was started July 2004 and we were approved August 2004. BUT we have been waiting since then! No referrals, no potential matches, NOTHING!! We are now moving programs, which means getting approved as a Foster home. We will be accepting children that are considered legal risk, but have a good chance to be become free for adoption. This is a huge risk, but also one with great rewards as the child is allowed to create a bond early. We are hoping for a newborn from the hospital. These babies will more than likely be pre-exposed babies, either to drugs or alcohol or both. There could be many issues, but we are willing to take it on. Hope that helps a little. Good Luck! phills Wife to awesome hubby G Mom to DD 11, DS 8, DD 5, and hopefully a baby sooner than later!!!

Its great to see all the Canadians here --with everyone I've talked to it seems CAS does take a long time-- We haven't started our homestudy yet but I'm calling the lady this week. I've looked into international adoption buts its so expensive. I would love to find a birth mother and do an adoption that way. I guess alot of families are looking to adopt babies. Tak to everyone soon.

Hi!
We are in Ottawa, and our homestudy wasn't that bad! It took about 3-4 months to complete, and some of that was just normal delays! We had a great social worker.. We are hoping to adopt again, - just waiting for a birthmom to pick us, but even updating our homestudy this time was really easy! Michelle |

Congrats Tracy on your twin adoption!! That must have been very exciting!!!
Hi Michelle - thanks for you post-- yes I have called the lady for our homestudy yesterday-- now I wait until she calls back-- I'm thinking it will take us a while to get this completed as we still need to pay $1200 for the homestudy. Oh well- whatever we need to do. Talk to everyone soon. jody. |

Hi Tracy,
Congrats on your twin adoption. If you don't mind me asking, tell us a little about your twins, the process it took with placement visits, and how things are going now. I bet your house is a very busy place!
