Question about private adoption U.S. and Canadian
I am a hopeful adoptive mom living in the US. Recently a birthmom from Nova Scotia found us. She is pursuing independent private adoption and hopes to meet us. Potential birthfather is either a US or Canadian citizen. Birthfather is in support of adoption plan.
I have some legal questions, and am hoping someone can help. Can we adopt a Canadian Child from Nova Scotia, or do we need to be a citizen? Are there any spcial circumstances given the birthfather's potential citizenship? Thanks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I live in Nova Scotia, and I do know of a girl who placed her baby for adoption in the US. Both birthparents were Canadian citizens. One of the adoptive parents was Canadian. She did give birth to the baby in the US. I am not sure if she had to because of the laws or if it was what she preferred.
It would probably be best to contact a lawyer in Nova Scotia as well as in your area. Good luck. ![]()
