I'm a US citizen, DH is Canadian, we live in US, can we adopt a Canadian child?
Hi, I'm looking for some answers (well, one in particular) and I'm hoping that someone here can proivide.
I'm a US citizen, my DH is a Canadian citizen. We are residing in the US currently but are interested in adopting a Canadian infant. I'm not sure of the Canadian adoption rules.....do you have to be residing in Canada in order to be eligible to adopt? Thank you, Michelle |

I found this online from the Adoption Council of Canada that will answer your questions:
" The requirements for adoption in Canada depend in which province you live in. All Canadian provinces require residence in that province and you must be at least 18 years of age. Quebec and Newfoundland require you to be at least 25. The province of Nova Scotia also requires that you be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant. Some provinces require that you have lived in that province for at least six months." I hope this helps. |

Thanks
Thanks Jeanne,
Yes, your reply helps greatly. I guess we'll just have to make our move to Vancouver sooner than we had planned to. Michelle |
