Dear Friends, i have created a petition online and i'm asking for your
support.

It is "Adult Adoption in B.C." and is at:

To give some background, here in BC -- unlike in Alberta, Nova Scotia
and Ontario -- there are quite ridiculous restictions on adult adoption
(makes you wonder what they're trying to protect the public from!).
Section 44(2)(c) of B.C.'s Adoption Act
(http://www.qp.gov.bc.ca/statreg/stat....htm#section44) limits
adult adoption to adults who have been supported while minors. Other situations where people may want to do this include step-family relationships and after adoption reunions.

What we are looking for is a system like in Alberta which has a system
which allows adult adoption
(http://www.qp.gov.ab.ca/documents/acts/A04.cfm) for a variety of
circumstances. Their system is described on the page at

I've been having a good, productive dialogue with the Deputy Minister of
MCFD on this topic, but I feel a petition is a good idea to show her
that there is broad appeal to the idea, that it's not just one single
person in the province who is interested or who supports this.

So, if you live in B.C. and support this concept, are interested in
doing it yourself or support the rights of others to do it, please
