Cdns Living abroad -homestudy?
We are a Canadian couple trying to figure out how we can adopt Internationally while we are living outside of North America. Since you need an approved Homestudy before you can proceed, does anyone know of a service that will do this Internationally? ie if your resident country does not have such a thing. We just moved to Turks and Caicos (Caribbean) and since this country is small, it does not have any social workers that perform Homestudies.
We inquired to a few people in Canada but did not have any luck with anyone returning any of our calls. If you know of anyone that has adopted while living abroad, then there must be a process in place. It would be unfortunate if we can't get children if we don't live in a MAJOR country. |

Homestudy for Canadians wanting to adopt internationally but living abroad?
We are in a similar situation . We are Canadian, living in the US. We have been told that we cannot adopt from a US agency as we are not US citizens (has do to about foreign child becoming US citizen, which we really don't care about).
Have you found a solution to your situation? If so, please share. Thanks Deidre & Tony |

the only progress we have made is that we now know that we need to contact the country that we wish to adopt from directly.
The best approach is either to an agency or a lawyer in that country. But, we have also discovered that most countries won't deal directly with adopting parents, only with agencies from certain countries. We are now talking with an agency in Guatemala who says we can adopt directly with them. Overall, its quite frustrating that Canada does not support their own citizens! Hope this helps you, |
