Can someone tell me

I want to adopt a little one in California. But I am in Idaho.Does anyone know what I can do to make that happen?I am almost a foster parent in Idaho. Do they ever place foster children inanother state from another state?

Difficult, but can be done...

Hi Deborah----

I've become rather good buddies with a State Adoption Worker, so I can give you a little bit of info. You would have to do a straight adoptive placement since CA will only place foster kids in CA. It's an absolute nightmare just to do an intercounty transfer-let alone and interstate just due to the sheer size and numbers in the state. (35% of the US foster kids are in CA) We know because our kids were in Mendo Cty and we live in LA cty.. Most counties have their own CFS dept. Most of the rural NoCal counties are handled through state adoptions. CA does not reemburse for any travel expense or placement costs. I would start with State Adoptions because they are a bit more flexible than the individual counties.

Best of luck
Debra
