Has anyone adopted and changed the babies name, how do you do this?

if your are fostering

and you know you are going to be changing the child's name, just start calling him/her by new name.

If the child is already talking, then changing the child's name should not be taken lightly. If the child is pre-verbal, it is not going to be a big deal.

One thing a lot of parent I know have done is start calling the kid by a nick name, then you can still use the nick name and transition to the new name easier.

Examples:
b-mom named child Crystal--- foster parents called her Chrissy and then changer her name to Christine

kid's name was Fury- no joke- FP called him Bee-bop, adoptive parents changed name to Christopher

Some long name that started with A, FP called him Andy, adoptive parents changed to Andrew

I really would not change the name of a kid past 3 years old, at least keep name as middle name.

We just took in an infant a month ago who was named by her birth parents. We have changed her name in our home although on all of her legal stuff it is her original name. When the adoption finalizes (Pray for us), her name will be changed legally.

Also, there is no telling how long you will wait. A lot depends on the background of the baby, availability, and what your preferences are.

Good luck and feel free to EMail when you receive the baby. I'm going through everything brand new myself.

My finalization date for adoption of 6 siblings is coming up on the 23rd of this month. We have a 12, 10, 9, 5, 2, and 10mo. We have changed all their names. They have felt that that it has helped them to move forward with our family. They say it has made them feel more a part of us. It has been a very positive experience for us. I hope this helped. I wish you the best of luck. Godbless, imelfamily

Thumbs up waiting period

I don't know what u will have to do about changing the babies name but u should talk to your lawyer about it maybe they can help. I heard from different resources and on line info that it does not take long through privaite adoption, i should be in no time that is one reason why privaite adoption is so expensive because u don't have the long wait like public adoption. so just hold on it should be jst a little while. good luck and congrad to u
