or is sb county totally sloooww. my husband and i are cert parents through an ffa and are asking for kids age 0-4 for foster and we've gotten noooo calls. our last placement was in jan with older kids and that didnt work out. we had got a potential call in jan that fell through but nothing since then. In the mean time we've been trying to switch over to foster/adopt which is taking forever might i add. but im just fearing with the lack of calls for foster were deff not going to be able to adopt...

first of all....sorry
second....if you are with an ffa is it possible it is your agency that is slow, and not the county? i know there have been some people around this board who were having a heck of a time getting a placement through their ffa....but their county was hopping. have you ever considered going through the county? |

Ditto her comments.
Further explanation: FFA's cost the counties more. They will try to place w/ county homes first. Budgets are tight. I imagine they are favoring county homes even more. SB county is a large needy county. You should not need an FFA to find you a child out of state. As such, the county itself would have been your better bet for a placement of a young toddler/baby. If you were going for an older child, I imagine an FFA home might be more needed. I heard from a worker in a nearby county that more people are going county adoption for 0-2 because of economy; they can no longer re-fi and take out money to go private adoption. If this is true, your base of people who want foster/adopt babies are up. I know the county has its drawbacks in terms of classes, but the time you spend in classes will soon be forgotten when you hear the pitter patter of little feet across your floor. Ok my dh and I are adopting through sb county and they are verry slooww. We had on call back in march for a safe surrender baby but that didn't work out now I'm just going crazy waiting for our little girl to come. By the way we want a female 0-6 months of age, we already have 3 bio boys at home. But we know god will bring us the right baby. Just hang in there.

I'm your neighbor in Riv. county. I'm going through the county and the following day after I was approved I received a call for a fost/adopt situation....due to the complexity I had to turn it down, but since I'm 0=4 y/o my sw told me it would be quick. BTW in our classes, they did say they prefer their county homes and would rather do without FFA homes if it were possible but they can't compete monetarily wise (foster care)....if that's the same attitude in sb county...this could also be the case.
I'm sorry for the wait.

I'm sorry SB County is so slow and that they don't like you to look for kids outside of SB.

All 3 of my boys came from SB county and yes the process was long, slow, and frustrating at times but definetly worth it all....I would be more than happy to share my experience with you if you have any questions as our process was slow to get approved but once we had our boys it went by quickly....good luck w/ FFA vs. County! We went county and our wait was 4 1/2 months for our oldest 2 and only a month or so for our youngest.

I'm in LA county and with an FFA. It seems to come in waves. We didn't get any calls for months and now have gotten a few. Also, I agree with some pp's that the county, for financial reasons, probably isn't going through ffa's. It's sad but I've also heard there are more children in the system during the summer because parents can't handle them at home. Sad.
Plus, it also takes longer if you are looking for a lower-risk fost-adopt situation. It might be interesting to take a poll? When's the last time you were contacted for a placement? Last edited by mamachell : 06-18-2009 at 01:22 PM. |
