I got the post card about the birth certificate
Yiippee!!! Only 4 1/2 months after we finalized, I got a post card saying Rowan's birth certificate would be here in 10 short months.
Also I found out that the reimbursement check for a private attorney is now taking up to a year to get. |

If it's any consolation, ours only took 7 1/2 months instead of 10

Whoa!! I guess that's what I'll have to look forward too...more waits! How do you apply to get the reimbursement for the private attorney? Oh, and when did you hire your private attorney? I have the name of the one you recommended awhile back but I'm not sure when I'll need to contact him....now? |

we finalized last week...the cw handed me a letter that said it would be 10-12 months, but she said bc of the layoffs the wait was about 18 months. lol. i guess i wasn't planning any overseas travelling for some time.....but he has no social security number, so that will be a pain for the next 2 tax seasons.

We finally got our youngest's BC after 10 months....we had a bit of a whoops w/ our taxes this year because we filed him under his new name forgetting that we didn't have his BC yet hence no new SS card and had to call federal to explain everything to them. They sent us a letter saying his name didn't match the SS # but after an hour on the phone and countless times on hold they honored it and sent us a new check. I am just glad to finally have the BC and hope that your 10 months goes by quickly!

mommytoeli - you just need to get an ATIN (Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number). Here is the link to the irs form:

I hired my attorneys after I signed adoption placement papers. My lawyer sent me the reimbursement papers to sign after finalization and then I mailed them off. |

Don't be fooled with what's on the postcard - I actually called, because they sent me 3 (for one kiddo) and the gal said they are running 12 months plus. We finalized 9/2008 and she said our will arrive 12/2009. We'll be crossing our fingers for sooner....

I'm not. I'm still operating on the 18 month time frame. I've already got a Tax payer ID number for next year's taxes so all bases are covered. |

I can not believe it takes so long in CA to get a bc after finalization. That is unreal. We finalized on a Tuesday and had our new bc on Friday. Guess they budget crunch in CA is really affecting the processing of paperwork. Sorry you all have to wait so long.

You can take your court finalization documents in to get a social security card. I did with both my girls. You can also use the court documents for a passport. You do not need to wait for a birth certificate.

i was only able to do this for my child who had a social security number previously, and then could use the documents to change his name and get a new number. i was told i could not do this if the child had never had a social security number before. did your children already have ss #'s? if not...i'm gonna be bugged. lol. that is the one office that never seems to know what they are doing! |
