Question Do foster parents get a day care subsidy?

Hello All,

I currently have my fd in daycare. I see some parents seem to have their daycare paid for or at least subsidized (they aren't foster parents) by different organizations (ie Crystal Stairs). I'm wondering: does DCFS subsidize any daycare costs?

We do get a stipend and did get a one time clothing allowance (a VERY small amount) but I was wondering if there was some sort of daycare assistance?

Thank you.

when i fostered in CA, i had 2 different children attend daycare...one as a full time day care baby, and a second more as a preschool student. there were no subsidies either time for us, we were told that is why we got foster money. never mind that full time daycare was twice what we brought in. maybe it varies by county?

Last year I had a child in Orange County. I had daycare covered easily by them. Now I have a L.A. County child, and was told due to budget crisis, no monies available. There was a program they said I can apply for and get on a waiting list, but they made it sound like it was a complete waste of time. And they started using fosterparent income to form their priority, which was more to our disadvantage.

Keep hounding them

SWs can be great - I had a wonderful one previously.. . I loved her and she always was helpful, looking for ways to help FD.

Not true with current SW. My SW is lying. She told me I cannot reopen my guardianship case because FD will be 18 in a few months. Not true. I filed a form that FD's attorney told me to file. The case is being looked at again by the judge.

She told me that auditory processing disorder is not a learning disability. It is. (I am a high school teacher, it is in her IEP, other students' IEPs, and I've confirmed on the internet and with the special ed administrator at my high school). I cannot believe she said that.

She told me that the judge will do whatever she says. I told FD's attorney and she laughed.

She told me a lot of other things. Sometimes they just don't want to do the paperwork.

I believe the program she was referring to is Crystal Stairs. Jory has been on the waiting list since he was 3-months-old, he is now 4. When I called late last year, I was told they only have money now for children whose mother are on welfare. These children take precendence over foster children? Really?!?!

Here in NY, daycare is paid for. I send mine to one of the bigger learning centers and DSS pays for it. Or rather...our tax dollars pay for it! lol

In Shesalmost18s case, would it be possible to request a new SW? If she can document these lies, couldn't she speak to the SW's supervisor and be transferred to a new SW?
