family size limitations for foster care?
We are hoping to move soon We were checking into a few different places and I am finding some states have a limit on the number of children allowed in the home to be a foster parent I am wondering if CA has a requirement like this. In all of the online info I didn't see it mentioned so, I am wondering if there is one. We want to be able to accept a foster child in our home. What home size do you think they consider adequate for a family of 9? If we move to so. cal we plan to live in Riverside co. Any info would help -- thanks.

I don't know if it is the same statewide, but here in Sacramento it would depend on how many bedrooms you have. They allow 2 children of the same sex per bedroom. One agency also told me that the children sharing a room could not be more than 5 years apart in age, but I don't know if that was just the agency's rule or a general rule.

do you mean sq. footage???? I don't think that is a requirement, but you'll need a few rooms even if kids of same gender share so that would up the sq. footage anyways.

we have MULTIPLE friends in riverside county with 10 each (some bio, some adopted, some foster).actually, one may have more now. lol. but it is about bedrooms. i believe the rule is 2 kids per room, unless the room is abnormally large and you manage to get a waiver. but the best thing to do really is just call: Riverside County Department of Public Social Services (just scroll down to riverside)
this is a great county and they are really helpful. |
