I am in Riverside Co. How are placements right now? I only take newborns tho, so I know it can be slow. Just wondering if anyone knows if it has picked up at all.

ahhh thank you! Hoping to get a placement soon cause hubby doesn't want to re-cert. and that will be up soon. After the last baby and the way that all happened he has had it with the system. So hoping to get a placement then we will have to re-cert.

can't speak for all of Riv. Co. but nearing the end of my classes (yay) and every week there is a different foster parent there from the county...and two of them showed up last week and week before with infant....barely placed....don't know if you are still with an agency or went county, but that's at least 2 placements with county FP....

I really hope you get a placement soon.

we are still with an agency I wish they would call, I have the baby itch..I always have that tho.

We are in L.A. County and our SW says they are having an increase in the number infants here being safe-surrendered here. She said the new trend is due to the economy. Now they are getting older women who know that they can not financially afford to care for their babies turning them in.

But I know, L.A. isn't Riverside and doesn't work like them. There are so many more kids in the system here since it is run differently.

I know you've had such a long wait. I hope you get your little one soon and look forward to hearing about it.

Talked to my agency, they said they havent had a baby placement in 6 months. They said the county told them they would most likely getting very little if any baby's. That the county uses there homes first. I know this to be ture. BUT I am conveinced out agency SUCKS. sorry but for 2 years now they placements have gotten slower and slower...I think the county places with agencies it prefers and this is not one of them. BUMMER! Sounds like before our re-cert is up we most likely wont get a placement which means we will be done with foster care I am really bummed, I just wish we would have either picked a different agency or gone with the county. We were referred to our agency thats why we choose it but man was that a huge mistake.

Bummer. Do you have to wait for re-cert? Can you just contact the county and ask to attend PRIDE classes and get certified through them? Since the state has already licensed your home, it may just be a matter of CPR and PRIDE classes. Sure they suck, 13 classes. But the SW's make it as fun as possible. We made friends there. Time is a small price to pay for your heart's desire. Don't give up. When there's a will . . .

I had heard that we would have to re-do everything in order to change to county....We have had a bad experince with the social workers and our agency, so it will take A LOT for my husband to want to re-cert if we do not have a placement when that is due.

after I'm officially done and waiting....would you be interested to see how long the wait for placement is (i'm looking for 0-4....I know you want babies) and if I hear from my 'pride classmates' how long it took for them would that be something you could show your husband if it looked favorable for him to do it again?

I still would call and ask for information.

Jen, I sure do hope you get your placement before you have to decide about the license. I can understand not wanting to go through the whole process again. It's one thing to take the time and do it all yourself, but its quite another to get your DH to do it too, and adding on child care on top of that.

We are just getting started and my DH is being great about it and looking forward to fostering, but over all, he is doing this for me. I did say I would be doing all of the work. Throughout our licensing process they (LA County and the Agency) have added extra classes and steps for us for before and after the process, and last week we were notified that we will have to switch to fost/adopt. I keep waiting for my DH to say enough is enough. I know, we are such naive newbies! This is the easy part.

Maybe if you do decide to re-up you could find a fost/adopt support group in your area and really get the good info on the agencies, what kind of placements they are doing, and if they have a good relationship with the county. Or you could try calling the county to see if that yucky SW still even works there. She/He might be long gone.

ding. ding. ding. ding. correct. lol. and they are pretty upfront about it. i think you'd be really happy with the county relinquished baby program. i've said that before. should your dh be willing to re-cert....go county and don't look back! i know it is hard. i hate the paperwork and the classes!!! you know i'm here if you ever want to talk county. good luck. my best wish for you would be for you to get a placement before your paperwork expires. good luck! there are SO many kiddos in your county that need a home!
