Just curious

In the foster parent thread, there seemed to be a lot of sibling pairs that came to houses....does anyone know if there are sibling pairs of the same gender that filter through the county that become open for adoption? or do you find that most of the sibling groups are mixed gender or more than 2....just curious...

there are both mixed and same gender but what we learned is that the opposite gender sibs are harder to place, bc most people only have 1 room available, and opp gender sibs can't share (over a certain age). same with sib sets over 2..again, lots of people have only 1 room, but a sib set of 4 needs more space. if you are adament about only taking in same gender sibs of a certain age and family size, stick to your guns, you'll get your placement.

that makes sense. I'm adopting one or I will take 2 if same gender. I have no qualms about taking in 1 child...just trying to wrap my brain about what is most likely the scenario to be for me. It may be that I start with one and then after I finalize, I may look for the other same gender for another adoption...who knows when this economic crisis is over and houses start appreciating (one can hope) I'll probably look to buy another place with 3-4 rooms we'll see...one day at a time and I need to care for the children I'm entrusted with first before doing anything else

Remember children of the same sex with an age difference greater than five years can not share a room in LA County.

I had read that too Yash, and mentioned it to my sw during homestudy. She told me not to worry about it, that there are ways around it.

UGH! I'm glad to hear this, but you know there are CWs and SWs out there that would be a stickler about it. Why can't everyone just want kids placed in a good loving foster home or fost/adopt home?

I'm in San Bernardino County and was told that licensing will make an exception for those adopting sibling pairs to have boy/girl combo share a room. However, after the adoption is finalized they close out your license as the room is filled. There reasoning was that they are already siblings and more than likely were already sharing a room, so if you are comfortable with them sharing a room than they would make an exception.

I was also told that if I was placed with only one child and after the finalization, then waiting period. If I chose to adopt another, it would have to be the same sex to share the bedroom since they are not blood siblings who once lived together prior to adoption.
