Presentation meeting questions
My sw gave me a broad understanding of the presentation meeting, but since I have not had one yet, and am convinced that once I get that call, I'll be very excited
....I thought it might be a good idea to ask you folks what kind of questions you asked when presented with informaton about your kids, what questions you didn't ask, and what questions you WISH you had asked.

Do you mean when you get a call for a placement? I take only infants, I ask why the baby is being placed? Drug exposure? Previous children? Visitation? You get overwhelmed with emotion when you get that call, your heart races with excitement. BUT you have to remember you are not the only family they call, so sometimes and this has happend to me several times. By the time your social worker calls to tell whom ever is placing the child. the child may already be being placed with another family. And the let down can be tough. you just have to tell yourself that placement wasnt meant to be. good luck, we cant wait to hear that you have a placement. What county are you in?

Are you being placed as his adoptive home not just foster? I am assuming this. When we were placed with our FS it was a concurrent placement and we received as much info as they had on him. We did get a little on the birthparents. I still refer to those papers for info. I am guessing this is what meeting you are having. We actually picked up our FS at that meeting but they didn't let us see him until we heard everything (he was only 4 months old...we would not have paid much attention if we had him in our arms
. I would ask about his birthparents (their mental illness/drug use/etc.). Any relatives come forward? Ask about his life with bio's. Why didn't his foster parents want to adopt? School issues? Behaviors? These things should all be covered but just in case they are not you want to ask. Good luck! |

Yes I'm fostering with the intention of adopting. I'm going for a bit older in age, 5-11 boy (that is why my sw thinks it will be so fast) and I live in Los Angeles County, and since I know things may very well go fast, I wanted to get an idea beforehand, so I thank you
so much for your comments. ![]()
