County or Private Agency for foster care? San Diego area

My husband and I are planning on getting certified to be foster parents when he returns from deployment.
We are hoping for younger children (no older than 4), and hoping to fost/adopt.

Please PM me with any suggestions on whether to go through the county or a private agency, if you've done this! I just don't want to start the process and find myself at an agency I hate, and have to go through it all again.

We are in North San Diego County (Camp Pendleton/Oceanside).

Thanks for any advice you have in advance!

If you want to adopt, go with the county. They get first pick of placing children. Agencies get the overflow (sounds harsh I know). If you are just going to foster, an agency will pay more.
The county will take longer, but if you want to adopt, it is worth the wait.

How do you "go with county?" Would that be like using Olive Crest?

no. olive crest is an ffa. a private agency that contracts through the county. "going through the county" means you contact YOUR counties' local dpss office. so look up something like "xyz county, CA foster care" and you will most likely find the intake number. if you can't pm me, and i'll get it for you.

We've been going back and forth between public and private too.. We want to adopt but I'm leaning towards out of state. Will that make a difference in county vs private?
