changing the childs name...

if we are able to adopt the 2 year old offered to us would it be to traumatic to change her first name... her name is Kathleen, if we could we would like to change her name to Jenna but if its to hard for her then change it to Kaitlynne because its closer...

any opinions or advise would be really helpful

You could call her by Jenna but to get her used to it call her Kathleen Jenna or Jenna Kathleen to get her used to it. You have to like her name too.

I do not think it would be that traumatic. I have a freind who has adopted 2 kids through foster. Once was 2, one was 1. She changed both of their names the day they were placed with them. We have a sib set of 3, ages 4, 5 and 7. After having them for 2 months they asked to have their names changed. So we picked new names, but kind of call them both for now. You can always give Jenna for the middle name and call her Jenna. Good luck.

I changed my 2-year-old's name from Cindy (not really Hispanic, they were greatly influenced by American TV) to a family name that was actually more Hispanic. I just started calling her by the new name and she was reacting and responding within three days.
