Question regarding a SLOW agency
Quick question.. We turned in paperwork to begin adopting through the county. (I believe in late March, early April)
I told the agency in advance that my hubby has a misdemeanor on his record from YEARS ago like (12-15) when he fired a gun in city limits. (target practicing or something) (dumb I know) Anyway, we wanted to be upfront about it as we didn't want to be dishonest. I was told they didn't think that it would be a problem but to be on the safe side to get fingerprints first. This is opposite to ALL the other places THAT LET YOU TAKE CLASSES and then do the fingerprints. Honestly, if I hadn't said anything we'd probably be done with classes by now. Do you think we'll be approved? My hubby is a wonderful man. He has volunteered for special Olympics for years working with handicap kids and adults, is a great father and husband, and does civil war reenactments etc... and loves passing on his historical knowledge and blessing others. I run a Christian Moms group, love volunteering, used to be in foster care, mentored a teen, and have taught preschool and Sunday school. We have called at least once a month to hear back, but keep getting told nothing has come up. Should we switch agencies? The agency is HUGE and I wonder if it has to do with its size? Should we just stay put ? Any suggestions? We found a sib set that would ft wonderfully into our family. We are a bit sad as a bg twin set that we really liked has come and gone because agencies won't even SPEAK to you until you have had your home study done. I will be disappointed if the sibs get adopted before we are approved, but am faithful that God will pick the right children for our family. We are trying to be patient, but it is hard waiting. Thank you, Blessed Mom of 4 |

I would try contacting the agency a final time and give them a deadline to contact you back, then I would try another agency. I'm a big fan of private agencies. If they are this bad getting back to you about this issue, what will they be like when you have a child in your home?

My husband also had a blip on his record from when he was 16/17 years old. He and some friends thought it'd be fun to ride their motorcycles on private property then run from the police. Of course they all got caught. Duh!
Anyway, it did not affect our homestudy at all. And like you we were up front about it from the beginning. If I were you I would sign up for classes while you wait for their response and like pp suggested, keep calling and even give them a deadline. I understand alot of these workers are over worked but seriously sometimes they move like molasses.
